and a super corrected one from Paul at the White Rose model group.

Well...I asked Francesco Sapienza, the very talented painter of this box art (...a good friend of mine) Why the drum is upside down and he has told me that this was a common practice in campaign. The drummers used to reverse their instruments when the upper surface broke for heavy use. So he painted the drum this way to rapresent such "usual" manner to carry it...

Hi Mate thanks for a reason for the drum to be upside down.
If this is the case on the two figures; why is there no damage to the now "upside down " playing drum head? Why is the Royal Cypher emblazoned the correct way up?
Sorry to challenge this but if these are are the reason I would suggest that customers should be advised of this story that goes with the kit.
Best wishes
Keith

I really do not understand this controversy on the drum.

The drum is painted correctly, the royal coat of arms is the way it seems right

(Now upside down) so the painter has understood exactly how it was painted

They were brought attached to a hook and then hang them on the contrary quite possible

plausible that it is torn and the soldier has overturned

the piece is melted with separate drum ... so it can be mounted as it wants

Some time ago there was a similar discussion on a forum tanks.

It discussed why a wheel of a truck was mounted upside. serious mistake for many
shame that one forgets that in battle we must also do it quickly, you recover what is an American trucks could also travel with German wheels for example .... but mostly no more than 10 days ago I saw in the parking lot of the company where work a car with winter tires mounted on the contrary ... and I do not think that there is a war going on inside the Italian borders

Eugenie Leliepvre wrote "The regulation is one thing, practice another" stressing that yes you have to follow the regulations, but in practice must also be able to adapt

sorry for my english

For me I have made my point. I would not want to buy a figure that had a hidden story that took a lot of tap dancing to assemble it and paint it correctly. I know of only one painter who did not know this this story and for me one out of one is too many.
I respect your painting skills but this is not a good practice.
Best wishes
Keith

Something is upside down. Maybe it's the drum. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's the world turned upside down. Maybe this drummer is at Yorktown. OK, I'm going with that one.

Flippin Norah lads.
There is no controversy.

Look the figure went into the mould with mould feeds on the wrong end of the drum and it was assembled upside down, probably in the rush to release at the Italian show.
the painter has followed the error.

Just spin the drum round and paint it the right way up.

I have no idea what all the fuss is about really.

Paul.

First time I've heard of this. If they did reverse the drum because of damage then they would be not only beating on the bottom of the drum but on top of the snares of the drum as well. Not buying this story, just turn the drum around and call it a day.

Hi, All!
Just ordered.. one of muy favourite subjects and always crazy about bearskins, God knows why.
One question: I often see the jackets/facings colours reversed, but also drummers with red jackets.
Any plate or indication available?
I think I'll paint the jacket in red, but I'd like to make sure I choose a right combination.
Thanks,

Iñaki

Yes Huw they have. Its for our Australian Brethren.

I'm sure that the antipodean PR fraternity will be happy.

And we really do appreciate it Guys - nice to be able to read the cypher for once.

Fully agree Paul. Storm in a teacup over nothing really. Reminds me of when we made a film on the Battle of Long Tan when a technically competent fellow pointed out it wasn't the correct APC - it had a very thin metal strip running above the road wheels!!!

Its a lovely piece, and given the number of people who modify figures, spinning the drum around is as easy as peasy.

Hi Guys

This is a fine piece of artistry and a great period in history as well , as Grod says and Paul shows lots of potential for variations all producing colourful results ......

Perhaps a whole group of these all painted differently ..eh Paul !

Inaki , Drummers wore reversed colours of their regiment in most cases.
Sometimes what appears red is actually a brownish red.
here's some colour options.

Thanks, Paul!
I saw some of those pics in internet, but I wasn't aware about the brownish red... Perhaps nicer and colourful the yellow one.
And true... a fifer would be a nice addition

If the error is the drum strings (now I miss the technical term) looking at the images posted at least two tables are wrong including that of George William Joy and Tom Troiani ... or do I look bad?
