Hi All,
I have decided to start and make the Rorke's Drift firing line from the back of the Alphonse De Neuville painting incorporating the Colonial wagon.
There will be 6 figures in total plus the ox cart. I will have the dead lance corporal in the foreground, the artillery bombadier reloading, the wounded soldier and 3 soldiers firing. Plus I will do a range of mealie bags and boxes to support the barricade.
I purchased various hardwoods in various sizes to make the wagon, I am going to get the wheels done in 3d to save me some time.

I've made a start on the wagon bed and sides, along way to go but it is started.

The scale will be 54mm (1/30) as per all the other figures in the diorama. This piece can compliment the Rorke's Drift diorama or be a stand alone piece. With a few additional figures it could be used as Durford's last stand at Isandlwan ect.

cheers

An interesting project. I will follow with interest.
while not specifically dealing with colonial carts, the following is a good read with great illustrations of GS wagons and the more specialised vehicles such as pigeon lofts, water carts, small arms ammunition carriers etc etc etc. A small book but packed with detail. Recommended.

Awesome, great selection of figures, put me in for a pre order from you for when they are done. All of these along with all of your previouse figures are second to none, the best of the best and I look forward to them.
Take care my friend

Hi Nigel,
Thank you for looking in. That's a great niche book and with plans too, thank you for the heads up on that one.

Looking forward to seeing this one develop..

Hi Smithy,
Thank you mate, I've got to build this with a view to casting it, so a bit of head scratching here and there.

Judging by experience we are all in for one more historically accurate stunner the kind of which only Richie is capable of providing.Of course I'll be following with immense interest.

Looking good Richie and I'm following now.
You may remember that I made a 1:500 one of these. I'll get round to finishing that project one day!

 Crikey Andy, I've dropped bigger parts than that and never found them again, amazing work in such small scale.

Hi Aris,
Thank you for your continued support. Hopefully it will be accurate, there were lots of different wagons used.

I seem to remember when Norman Abbey did the Isandlwana diorama back in 1975, featured in Military Modelling, he used a Lasset GS Wagon. Probaby the nearest thing available at the time.

Hi Geoff,
Just had to look up that one.:D

Hi Nap,
Don't worry you'll have plenty of time for snoozing on the sofa, even when I get the wagon done, there is all the barricade parts and the figures.

Hi Steve,
You'd better have a kip too.

Hi All,
I have been cutting and shaping the wheel guards out of metal and started work on the wagon sides overhang, not a lot to show yet. So....
I decided to repurpose one of the figures from my Rorke's Drift set and a bit of conversion and sculpting work and I have my first firing soldier
on the way. I have also perched him on some mealie bags.
Will be back at it tomorrow.
cheers

Hi All,
I have progressed the sides of the wagon with the wheel guards and done a bit more on the axles and linkage.
