Much as it pains me (Gawd it burns it burns) I agree with Waterman not one of us expected anything more than token lip service once a year from the Govt. What we do want is a man who gave his all AND is universally respected by those who WERE there is to be given the recognition he deserves

Sadly being a member of the armed forces and the Army in particular is a thankless job in general but I don't think any of us joined for thanks, we all joined for the youthful excitement of it all, sadly for most that excitement for many turns sour and forms a long lasting depression and for many a life of homelessness and alcohol on the streets of our cities.
I do hope justice is done for Cpl McLaughlin, its a very small reward for so much given by the man.

For them to say an award can not be made retrospective, then the rules must have been changed at some time as all the first awards of the VC were all made retrospectively as the award had not been instituted when the deeds for which they werw awarded were done.In fact the posthumous award was not officialy recognised untill 1920
