I've been lurking around here for a few weeks , and although this figure is very unusual here because of its size, I thought it might be of interest.
This is a completely scratchbuilt figure in 1/6th scale ( that's just under twelve inches tall ) of a typical Royalist Footsoldier from the King's Oxford Army wearing the uniform as issued in 1643.
Documents record that one Thomas Bushell undertook to supply suits of red and blue , complete with coats, breeches caps and stockings. This is a reconstruction of what such an outfit might have looked like .
For those who have not seen these large figures before , they are based on fully-articulated plastic bodies from " Action Figures " sold by companies like DML and DiD and HotToys.
In this case , everything else is custom-made by me.
After a long career making small scale figures, I became fascinated by the possibilities of these large figures about ten years back , and now do little else...!
The clothing is mostly brushed cotton, the leatherwork leather , the musket resin and pewter. The sword is steel and pewter.
The head and hands ( interchangeable) are modelled in Fimo, with mohair hair.
Apart from the endless pleasure involved in sourcing and making all the different elements, the reposeability means you rarely get bored with them.
But space to store them is a bit of a problem....
I now have a collection of over one hundred such figures , and growing.
My intent is to have a figure from each of the campaigns of the British Army since its origin. Some work still to do........
