This is the 4th bust i have sculpted and it was inspired by a visit to the cinema where i saw the promo poster of the new Robin Hood film which stars Russell Crowe a Robin coming out in May 2010.
I am fairly happy with the facial features now but i am going to keep working on it some more to get a closer likeness, also i need to add a notch to the bow at the top where the string attaches when strung, i am also working on the pedastool base for it which is nearly complete.

bust is 1/9 (200mm) scale, all comments and critique welcomed,

Steve(y)

Hi Steve,

Great work so far! Comparing the photo with your sculpt, the forehead, in the sculpt, should be a bit higher. As it is, the sculpt's eyes appear not to be on the median bisection of the skull as they sould be. Just that little tweek should really make him spot on.

Cheers!
Ric

Nice work Steve, you choose a very diffycult subject by sculpting a specific personallity. I can't say that the result is very accurate, I believe that if you change the eyebraws (make him more "sud") and make the head more like egg your bust will look much better. If you have Latorre's 54mm roman from the "Gladiator" it will be an excellent guide,it will help you a lot. Best regards Christos.

Hello Steve,

awesome work mate, you did one great job.
It seems Russel Crowe indeed:)(y)

Hi Steve,

This is very impressive! As you acknowledged yourself, the likeness has yet to be fine tuned.

Please don't take this the wrong way but wouldn't it be easier to modify Young Miniature's Russel Crowe head and fit the whole design around that? Of course this is coming from a person with no expertise or thoughts in sculpting.

Steve great start and a great effort to achieving the likeness, always difficult to do especially of someone so famous. My suggestion would be to bring his eyes very slightly lower and closer together, but then again it could be with using steel ball-bearing for the eyes the pics with the flashback makes them look starry, perhaps if you gave them a coat of grey primer and take another look again.
Matey even if you don't make any changes, it's still a great sculpt.(y)

Cheers Ken

Well Stevo:

My friend, your talent knows no bounds. Where do people get the courage
to try something so difficult? Wait til the Planeteers see your horse that you
are sculpting.

And I am happy that you're getting so many good comments as critiques.
This always helps a lot. What a fine group of ladies and gentlemen on this
site. Something I don't take for granted!

Well done, and I'll be eager to see the next group of snaps on this one!
