Completed S&t Union Infantry...

This is my lastest and last figure before the APG show this weekend in Fredricksburg VA. I thought I'd go with at least 1 piece in the civil war theme which I am becoming more interested in as of late. He is 1/16 scale and I changed up my usual Vallejo media and used the Andrea blue paint set for the jacket, kepi and trousers as I was never satisfied with any of my previous endeavors into dark or light blue. He was a little tough to photograph because he really is sculpted in an awkward position but he shows a good deal of motion which I like.

whats up Scott. I liked the blue set a lot. I did not follow the Andrea system as I just really used their colors and adapted them to my system. I find that the Andrea pigment seems to be a bit stronger than Vallejo so they actually glazed better than Vallejo's IMO. I got their red and green sets as well which I have not used yet but I'm looking forward to doing so.

Good luck in finding him Orlando as S&T seems to have stopped production for the time being. I haven't seen much of him or his confederate counterpart that was done by S&T as well.

Dan, you have got to do more horse-and-musket era pieces - this is maybe the best treatment of this piece I can remember seeing. I understand that commissions support the rest of the work, but do what you can to get some of these folks to shift their attention away from WW2! ;-) Just tell them there's a worldwide shortage of Olive Drab and German Grey! I'm not knocking your 20th century stuff by any means - I'm just sayin' that it's great to see you dealing with subjects like this, and your Reb, and the 1803 Marine. Maybe I'm just grumpy that I won't be seeing this excellent work this weekend in Fredericksburg. Hopefully you'll still have it at Long Island. Anyway, great job, and just tell people you're going to paint nothing but primary and secondary colors for a couple years - that should give pause to the WW2 crowd for an moment or two! Don

Hi Stephan. It is not paper, it is made from a product called Excelsior Moss. You can find it in arts and craft stores and it replicates long grass and weeds very well in large scales.

Hi Don. Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure if he'll still be in my possession by the Long Island show but he was fun to paint and an education at the same time. You should be seeing some more different stuff from me in the near future so I'll keep you posted on my progress.
