comments are welcome.
My comment: first time to paint a oriental skintone, didn't worked well!!
Next time better.
Sorry guys, I'm not so f*ckin' good as you!
Greetings from the Netherlands!

Hey Erwin!

I think you have done a great job! The patterns are really cool! The only thing about the face I can see that don't look quite right are the shadows, try using a more brown instead of the orangish tint (looks like Burnt Sienna?)

Erwin,
You are being too hard on yourself...I wish my first bust looked half as good as this...you picked a very difficult piece to cut your teeth on, and I think it's great...Lotsa folks here on the planet are more than willing to talk with you and help you along.

My greatest piece of advice came from Alan Ball, he told me to "look and see what works from many artist and then adapt their technique to yours..." Ask questions and am sure you'll get many folks helping you out.

I understand that you use oils for your fleshtones...you might want to consider using more of a flesh ochre for the base tone rather than the burnt sienna. The felsh ochre gives more of a consistent tone rather than a shade of orange...do you use oils exclusively?

Erwin-

I think your bust looks pretty darn good. For first bust WITH asian skin tone, you have done quite well. I think the clothing work is great.

I use oils for my faces. I still use burnt sienna in my mix. You can add a very small amount of WN Blue (red tint) to reduce the orange results from the burnt sienna. It will cool and darken your base mix, too. Another option in your mix as a replacement for burnt sienna is venetian red. I have been practicing with Venetian red in my base and for a first wet on wet shadow.

Also, don't be hard on your work. Take what you have learned and build on it. I also would like you to post more of your work in the future. I like your technique.

Hey Erwin,

I think you have done a really nice job and I don't think there are many here that would not enjoy seeing it in their display cabinets. Keep up the good work and remember to just ask if you have any questions and there are plenty of people who are willing to help.

Joe

Erwin. The bust looks really great. I have never painted in oils.

I think here in planet figure all members are for learning (I learn from, for example)

Cheers
