Hi to everyone ,

We have much to be thankful for in this world and without Caxton and the Printing Press we would not have had the immense amount of books and reference material we now have access to .....and we would not have had our PF friend Stelios Demiras producing what is an amazing milestone in the Scale Model Handbook series ...we have No 10 in the range .

General comments

As in the previous volumes we are treated to a very high quality product with contributions from the very best in our modelling world covering all types of subjects including preparation , painting, groundwork, scratch building...... all using various models both military and fantasy

Produced on the high quality paper with card covers in a Matt finish , colour representation is immaculate in all of the 8 articles over the 52 page volume. Text in all is easy to read and packed with information, paint mixes and hints.

Contributors include:

Pepe Gallardo, Adrian Hopwood, Christos Katselos, Michael Kontraros, Grigoris Marmatakis, Sergey Popovichenko, Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth and Christos Stamatopoulos.

There are as stated a total of 8 articles all using various manufacturers these include:

Primus Pilus Roman Centurion, 1st century A.D. - 75mm – Pegaso Models (75-012)
FIGURE_10_P04_05.jpg

This article adorns the front cover as well using a Pegaso model the author Christos takes us from the prep to the finished figure , sharing the work he did , what I like and found particularly helpful in this was the painting of the cloak giving us the mixes he used . Also of much interest was the arour painting ...all details are now in my notebooks.

Consisting of 10 colour packed pages showing all round views of the figure as WIP and completed as well as this we are shown the "dot" method used on the painting of the groundwork .

Great article and a comprehensive painting guide .... a great start to the book

Ejecutor - “Blood and Silver” - 70mm – Nocturna Models (Masquerade)
FIGURE_10_P14_15.jpg

Next up we have a fantasy subject by Pepe over 4 pages again full colour what stands out in this article ..well it has to be the cloak painting ...amazing work and effects , very well described , this together with the flesh painting produces another article that you will as I have kept going back to,
Pepe's use of light is amazing to achieve this he uses both brush and airbrush techniques and you can feel the fun he had in doing the figure

Blood! - Portraying Realistic Blood On Figures
FIGURE_10_P18_19.jpg

Now this was an article that I really wanted to see , written by Sergy over 6 pages and using various figures to show amazing effects , by the use of Oil paints and mediums . The author explains the types of blood from fresh to dried all in great detail, on weapons and clothing from wounds etc and the way he achieves these on figures ...suffice to say I the results are jaw dropping work....another really interesting article .

Bar Gunner US, 29th Infantry Division - 120mm – Alpine Miniatures (16012)
FIGURE_10_P24_25.jpg

In this article by Ernesto we are brought to WW2 and our American allies , using a large scale figure he covers the painting of the box art used by Alpine ...great information on the painting of the faces (2 are included) , using both Acrylics and Oils . We are also taken through the painting of the US uniform colour resulting another brilliant figure , the article is full of mixes and another asset is the description of the weapon and the way this was painted.
The article is written over 6 pages in a enjoyable way with the colour pictures complimenting the text in every way

US Paratrooper 82nd Airborne, Normandy 1944 - 180mm – Young Miniatures (YM1824)
FIGURE_10_P30_31.jpg

Next in line is a bust (ye hah(y)..guess who likes busts!!! ), one from Young miniatures , the article written by another Christos covers only 2 pages but no need to worry as everything you need is there a full colour page showing the finished bust and a page absolutely packed full of mixes ....I admit it I photocopied ths and is now in my box of bust articles!!!)
A short but very sweet article using another type of model style providing variety in the book

Laconian Hoplite - 200mm – El Greco Miniatures (EGM-BU17)

FIGURE_10_P32_33.jpg

I am being spoilt now folks with another bust article this time written by Grigoris over 2 pages as well with full colour and mixes also provided . What I really liked was the addition of a shield and spear , really adds something to an already wonderful sculpt ...and it works well . The author uses both Oils and Acrylics together with Printers Inks , all to great effect ...I love the reds on this piece especially the crest

Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile - 180mm – El Viejo Dragon (CB35)

FIGURE_10_P34_35.jpg

The next article is a 3/4 figure of a real beauty from Ancient Egypt , the article over 8 pages and written by Adrian (who I have had the pleasure to meet and enjoy his other work) using a EVD figure he covers the painting of female flesh ( and there is a lot on this figure!!!) . As with other articles full colour compliments the text , obviously Adrian did a lot of research when doing this article as he comments about the "bit of a bulge to the stomach" ..on the sculting not him!!!

The description of the painting is another gem of an aricle and what effects he produces as can be seen in the pictures .

Concentrating mainly on the flesh painting we are also shown a SBS on how he achieved the marble effects on the pillar and what a result , amazing stuff and as the author puts it "eye catching" .....another fine article (had to wipe my brow once or twice though ..hard life us modellers lead eh :woot: )

Jules Vern - 65mm (Scratch-built)

FIGURE_10_P42_43.jpg

Last but very much not least we have an article that displays modelling talent beyond my dreams , totally scratch building a fantasy steam punk piece called Jules Vern . The modeller is Michael and what I really like in this 9 page article is the way we are shown from the initial idea and drawing to the completed piece (which has now gone commercial) using various material ranging from plastic rods , metal rods , perspex and photo etch .

The build is shown from the onset in clear details beginning with the base , then the bicycle and finally the figure .

No matter what area you look at its awesome work , both in the idea and the work involved ..the bicycle is a work of art in itself , put everything together and you have a masterpiece ...totally AWESOME work Michael.

A fine end article to Volume 10 in the series of books
