That's an interesting insight to the metal cast alternative, Gary. I hope to try this out one day when I have more time on my hands with more money in my pockets! Thanks for taking the time to describe the process.

Agreed with the others here Tommi; it'd be great to see more of your work processes. Can I just ask, you or anyone else, what kind of knife you use to cut the mould? Does a regular (but sharp) craft knife suffice?

Hi again, I'm right on the brink of completing my first model (I've filmed the development with time-lapse so will show that when it's done!) and I'm still buying lots of bits and bobs - such as an awesome new airbrush (always wanted one since I was a kid, so really chuffed!).

But I'm now wondering if it's necessary to buy a spray booth/extractor?

Janne you would need a Organic mask for use with Polyurethane resin, a normal mask will not work.
Something like this LINK
Also the exhaust from the vacuum pump needs to be vented to the outside of the property as this is extracting a lot of the harmful gases/fumes.
Cheers
Steve

I vent the exhaust gas from the pumps through 2.5 meter dishwasher extension waste pipes which hang out of the window.

Whoa, that's some serious kit, Tommi. So these attach to your vacuum pot and suck out the gas? I hadn't even considered this, yet it seems sensible now I think about it.

Hi Stephen our set up is much like Tommies but we are in a workshop in the Garden well it's a Shed (we built it our selves to suite what we need) we put the pipes through the shed wall so it goes out side. we also keep the door and the widows open, and have two fans blowing to curculate the air. we have a fridge in the workshop but that's for the Beer LOL, thats a must on a very warm day. good luck with it.

You're a bad influence Ian, I had no intention of putting a beer fridge in my work station till I read your post!

Here's a photo of all the accumulated equipment I've bought over the last few weeks - including the workbench which just came yesterday. Luckily, I already had a spare fridge stashed away in the garage!

I've just realised there's a whole forum section dedicated to people starting off like myself! Apologies to any toes I've stepped on.
