Beautiful job and wonderful explanation. I love this period too and seeing the way you painted him makes me want to get in formation right next to him! Alexandros has quietly become a top figure manufacturer as I haven't seen this piece either.
Paul, I am worried though as you only finish what you start before the next piece. Are you sure you're in the right hobby?

Well................ I do need a certain amount of time to finish a figure (depending on its complexity and size). If I would do 2 simultaneously it would just take longer to finish one. I only paint during the weekends and a 54 mm takes me between 3 and 4 months to finish. To finish 2 figures would take me between 6 and 8 months. I would gain nothing at all. I do not mind having to concentrate on a single 'project' over a prolonged period of time. Until now I have never felt my interest slip. Although I have to admit that when the end comes in sight I tend to hurry, eager to get the job finished

Its look so simple but characteristic of a great master is that they make a great thing so simple.

@Dekiman: thank you but I really do not consider myself that.

And its not as simple as it may look. For me finishing a 54 mm is first of all hard work. It takes energy and patience. You cannot expect to seee the end result in one week. Although it does help if you make a mental picture of what the end result should be like (colours included).

Then some perseverance can be handy. Something goes wrong. You cannot throw the figure away but sometimes have to start all over again. A fair amount of discipline would according to me be another prerequisite. If you want to finish a figure it means you have to work even if the good weather wants to lure you outside to go for a swim.

I do however have a rather sobre, down to earth approch to figure painting: its a 3d colour plate. That means drawing and laying in colours is what it is about. But that's my personal opinion though.

Dont get me wrong, I am an oil painter too, but more and more people incline to acrylic colour, because it is more vivid , doesnt smell in a living spaces and you need only water for the thinner. So to see a top notch figure painted only with oils is nowadays more and more rare.
