Good evening Jon. These were the first soldiers who defeated Napoleon in a battle. The Spanish infantry in the battle of Bailén in 1808. A total disaster for the troops of General Dupont.

The Africa regiment was one of those who formed the 4th division of the reserve, participated actively in the fighting and then continued to confront the French invaders at the Battle of Talavera, another disaster for the Napoleonic forces.

The Comander in Chief, General Castaños, wore the Africa Regiment uniform as it was his old regiment in the War against Convention (1793).

According to tradition, when Dupont gave him his sword saying "Here is my sword, winner in a hundred battles", Castaños replied: "Well, This is the first one I win."
