I am getting the hang of highlights with acrylics but my shading looks to stark and "streaky". I brush the dark color but it will leave a bit or too much then none in certain areas so I get almost a dirty look to my shading it is not smooth. Is the mixture too thick?

Talino, if the contrast on your shadows is "stark and streaky", then yes. Your shadows need to be thinner. Try thinning it down some more then put brush to figure. Hope it works for you.

Talino,

Another possibility is that you are putting a shadow value on that is too dark. In other words, you need to progress in smaller steps of shading. Try going a little less dark for your first shadow tone.
