One quick suggestion is use Golden Ochre in flesh mixes rather than Yellow Ochre which can add a blackish value in some mixes.
Gives IMO a cleaner finish and allows for better and warmer blending particularly when using wet on dry.

great suggestions here and alot of insight , thanks all and will keep experimenting , i been laying out my palette alittle diffrent , black has not been useful on my palette for face as raw umber and burnt sienna has been my deepest shadows , ive used raw umber and black but might drop the black. jim
