I would like to try to build my first shadowbox and would like to find out what books and resources are out there. I do possess Shep Paines 'How to build dioramas' and wanted to know what else is available. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ray Andersson´s book:
"The art of the diorama" has some useful hints and ideas. Though its a bit old the ideas and general rules still aplies.

Regarding Sheps book. Do you have the second edition? That one offers a bit more material on the subject.

Brad,

A box dio? What's the subject? I though for sure the Elite highlander would be your next figure, since you have all your pointy little brushes all limbered up from painting all those itty-bitty flowers. :)

I have a couple of articles that may be of help to you. I will try to dig them out this weekend and bring them to the next meeting, if you can wait that long.

Jim

Everyone - thanks for your replies.

Bill - Even though Shep Paines' book is an invaluable resource, I kind of want more info regarding lighting. That is probably the biggest part that scares me.

Uruk - I do not have the 2nd edition. I will have to check into that. I do have some articles from some old Military modeling magazine and Campaigns, but they are somewhat vague.

Jim -- Boy, that would be great. I have a couple of ideas brewing right now. I want to make sure they are going to work and I kind of want to have a plan for the lighting before I start. As Shep Paine said " Dont fall into the trap of confining such a scene to a shadow box just because you feel like building a box." One idea involves a western scene and the other involves the Tramp and the Kid kit from Andrea. Actually that Elite highlander might be the next figure I do. That tartan is still the only thing from stopping me. The tartans you paint are totally awesome and maybe I will paint mine when you paint yours. As far as waiting for the info, I'm not in a rush. I'm extremely busy with work right now (except for yesterday, today and maybe tommorow). Been going 6 days a week all month and all of next month also.

Hi Brad,

I did a shadow box in the past and my only references were Shep Paine's book and Ray Andersson's book.

I followed the instructions step by step and everything was fine. You don't need to be an expert. Easy to do. Just take your time.

Clarence Prigent ;)
