Wondering which order do people paint their figures. Do you apply a dark color first, in effect painting the whole face in the mid shadow tone then add highlights and dark shadows? Or do you paint the face the mid tone then add shadows and lights? If so are their pros and cons. BTW I use oils.

I do the same Talino.
I paint a base color, add shadows, then highlights while wet. Then add secondary shadows and highlights after dry. All in oils.
This is just works for me.
Cheers,
Craig

Hi Taliano,

My style is just like Mongo's, except I do everything while the paint is wet. I also use only oils except for small detail sometimes gets done with acrylics after the oil has dried.

I also use that method Taliano. I apply my base color and then my shadows while the oils are still wet. I then apply my lighs. I may also add extreme shadows and lights when the oils are dry.
