Shep Paine has passed away

There is a fine article on the Chicago Miniature Society Facebook page about the passing of Shep
Paine on Aug 1,2015. He had a stroke on Jul. 27,2015. A gifted and totally humble modeler who
willingly shared his knowledge and skills with all he met. He will be sorely missed by all in the hobby.
A memorial fund is being set up by the Chicago Society in his name.

I learnt so so much from his books in the mid 80s as a diorama builder and then as a figure painter,he has done so much for this hobby of ours and I hope and I'm certain he will get the full recognition he deserves,I was hoping he would pull through this,but the stroke must have been very serious,he will be sadly missed but never forgotten,RIP Shep

A sad day for his family and, of course, for the hobby. Time to mourn his passing and time to commemorate his legacy to modellers world wide.

What can I say? Shep was the supreme innovator in our hobby. He single-handedly elevated the shadow box from a once 'kitsch' craft to a high art form. And, of course, he was influential in so many other ways. His work for Monogram was an inspiration to an entire generation of modelers. Without Shep it is hard to say what figure modeling and dioramas would have become, but I think it is safe to say that they would have been less than they are today.

Thanks Shep! You certainly were an inspiration to me and many others. Though he was mortal, his legacy is not. The waves of his influence will ripple on through our community for many years to come. It is a great loss to us all and a sad day indeed.....

He inspired me with his work even before I knew his name. That is the dio that showed me how many things I had to learn (still have):

Shep was setting standards and was always steps beyond these standards with his pieces. RIP.
