New series Great War Horses starting on BBC 4 Tuesday at 9 pm . This is the write up for the first one .
Australian Light Horse regiments . Moving account of the men and horses . The horses know as Walers were breed for the outback so were well -equipped to play a pivotal role in WW1 in the Middle East .
Should be of interest .

Just watched the programme, some thing that I knew very little about. Very informative and tragic for the horses.

It was great, both illuminating and informative, not to say very moving. Some of the photos could have been taken yesterday. Then I recalled that great film, "The Lighthorsemen"........

This was far better than I expected and provided much more information on this area of WW1 than I knew about , like how many of the horses were actually owned by the troopers . One called Midnight the guy had raised from a foal . and none of the 130,000 horses shipped over ever returned to Australia , like the end quote said "No expense was spared getting the horses to war but no money was there to bring them back . I admit that I had a lump in my throat during the scene were troopers were shooting their own mounts rather than let them go to the Egyptians who would have treated them badly .
Kevin try BBC i player , it should be on there for 28 days .
