Hi Guys

I'm considering repainting the very first bust, that I painted approx 12 years ago.
It's the Verlinden 3rd NJ Cavalry Bust (the fighting butterflies).
I'd be interested in whether I should keep it or redo it now I developed my skills sic (not by a whole lot)
Your comments please

I shouldn't do it. Proberly you have a grey army. I think it is better to lay your skills on a new one. It's always good to see how your skills developed into the years.

No. You'll regret doing that. keep it as a comparison to see how you've moved forward as a painter.
Or backwards, if you're anything like me!;)

I agree. It's tempting to look at your earlier work and say "I can do better than that now" and repaint it, but you need to keep a few examples of your earlier stuff to remind yourself how far you've come over the journey. Hopefully you'll look back in years to come and marvel at your progress. The only exemption to that is if the kit is OOP or very rare.

If you really want to measure your development, buy the same bust, paint it up and then put them beside each other. You'll be amazed at the difference.

I agree with the above guys. Just keep it for old times sake to show how much you have improved over the years. Lock it in the loft and never let anyone else see it. Like your own personal Dorian Grey.

I'm about to do that with a figure that I painted circa 1998 in the hope that I'll see a big difference   !

But I wish I'd kept a few more of my earlier figures that Iwas no longer happy with, most of which I've either binned or sold (on feeBay, for modest sums), or stripped ready to repaint at some point (the OOP / expensive ones).

If you do decide to repaint why not take some photo's of the original bust just to remind yourself of how far you have progressed?????

I still have my first figure....my kids laugh at it but it shows them where preserverence can take you and they comment on that too.

Like the JAZZ man in his post above said. . . keep it as is
and you'll have your own personal Dorian Grey. . . I agree,
and could go Wilde about a good idea like that!!:rolleyes:
Sorry, . . . so much for my English Literature references,

Generally I'd say keep early stuff (maybe especially the first one) so you always have them/it to compare to, to show how far you've come. If the piece is still available to buy and it wouldn't break the bank I'd definitely keep the first version and do a second one if the subject is appealing enough to revisit.
