I thought Tony had an interesting comment on another thread about showing a figure on PF or maybe even at a local show then taking the same figure to Gerona. His thought was to keep what your working on under wraps and unveil it at the World Expo. I would be interested to see other opinions on it.
I wonder if we could also talk about bringing the same figure (s) to different shows. I think this is a good idea.. because if someone can't make one show and they can another... then they would see the figures. I know its not a good idea to bring a figure to the same show each year.

But I would like to read some comments.

Great idea Tony. I see your point. The other thing could be.. what you or anyone shows in Gerona... can be seen by others who could not attend Gerona at other shows or post it on PF.

Thoughts ??

A good point and I can sympathise with Tony's point of view. I would say the simple answer is anyone posting photo's of World Expo entries to prefix the thread title "World Expo" or something like that so if you don't want to see it before Gerona you don't have to.

Thanks for your input. There is a darker side to my point, and that involves the possible influence seeing early photos of Expo entries might have on judges at the expo itself? I'm not suggesting in any way that judges would "pre-judge" the competition in favour of something that caught their eye on pF, but some people may believe that it could still influence them, one way or another. Perhaps I am being cynical, harsh and unfair on judges, who I respect and don't wish to offend, but it is a question worth asking.

IMHO, Not posting early pics of your entries into Expo removes any perception of bias or favouritsm, and allows the judges to be as objective as possible.

Interesting stuff.

Personally I think it is a bit silly not to post a piece just because it is going to the World Expo. I seriously doubt that a picture posted online will give someone an advantage when it comes to judging, 99% of the time, a figure looks better in person the it does in pictures.

I would say just the contrary, post pictures of your whole display, that is the best 'ice breaker' you could possibly have. It will make your figures known to others on the boards, and if they attend the show they will say oooh yeah! I saw your figure over on pF....and that will open up a conversation. If you choose not to post anything, no one will know what entry is yours and you will miss a lot of great oppertunities to talk to fellow modelers.

As for bringing the same figures to the shows. I think it is a good thing as well. Like Dee says, if someone haven't seen the piece before it is always fun to get to see it. Usually the way I do it, is I'll bring whatever I finished after the last years show. So its almost like a 'show circuit' so to speak. Atlanta is the first show each year, so that is usually where I will bring my new stuff for the first time, then SCHAMS, MFCA and Tulsa if I go to anyone of those shows, where I will bring what I had at Atlanta and what ever else new I have done and so on. Once a figure has made the 'circuit' so to speak, from Atlanta in Feb to Chicago in October and all inbetween, it will not be brought to another US show unless it's a new show.

Hey Tony, I see what you mean. Its a thought about judging.. etc. Didn't think about that. I think also like Anders said.. sometimes its better to see it in person than the photo. The photo may not do it justice.
But you make some good points too... interesting thoughts.

I am taking to Chicago some figures I had at MFCA and my own Atlanta show.
I have a couple of new ones. I for one like to see figures over again at different shows. Its just for me, one more chance to get a good look at them. Its like Anders said... my figures make the show circuit so to speak.

Why should we have to put WARNING WORLD EXPO ENTRY infront of every post with a figure that will make the trip? If you really don't want to see the figures, then simply don't look.

Don't get me wrong, I can see where you are comming from, seeing it here make you feel like you don't need to see it again and will ruin the 'surprise', but this is a forum where you show your work and talk about it, thats the whole purpose of the forum.

Trust me................not everyone who will show their figures at world Expo....... also posts their work on this forum or any others. Once you are there you will not remember what you saw on the forums......as they will all look better in person.

The only reason I might not want to post a pic of something I have just done is so that someone else will not copy it by the time WE comes around and also have theirs there.

My last WE I attended I never had the chance to see all the figures......there were so many. The WE's are overwhelming....even to an old figure painter like me who has been to a ton of shows.

Post your pics on the forums.....so all of us who can't attend can see some beautiful work.

my 2 cents

Hi Guys

Judging from the opinions expressed on this thread, most of you seem to understand the point I was trying to make, but very few of you, if any, want to restrict posting WE08 entries on pF. That's fair enough and I thank you all for sharing your thoughts on the subject.
