Just finished a bust, and I'm trying to improve, so be brutal :)

You have done a superb job in the mouth area. I might have gone for a squarer jaw. His eyes are too large IMO but I recognize exaggeration of the eyes is an accepted sculpting method to draw attention and communicate character. Very recognizable as Cash. Be proud of this one.

I can't give you any tips, but it's a good likeness I'd buy it if it was commercial being a big Man in black fan. Colin (crf) covered anything I was going to say and is a far better sculptor than me as are you
Steve

...I might have gone for a squarer jaw...

I second that, because I have to be honest, I did not recognize this as Johnny Cash, and only caught on when I read the other posts. Otherwise, it is an excellent sculpt, speaking in terms of technique and execution.

Prost!
Brad

I agree with Colin's original comments, the eyes are too big for sure and I would accentuate the dimple in the chin I think he was well known for that.
And maybe increase the size of the supraorbital ridges (eyebrow)....and shorten the distance from the top of the nose to the hairline.
Just some thoughts, I'm no sculptor.

You are aware that images that You posted were taken 15 years before ones I was using as a main reference ?
Actually I made same mistake: take too many images from different periods as a ref, and volumes of the face are changing rapidly as the man grows old.
That and a fact that I was not paying enough attention to size relations of the basic elements (relation of size of the eyes to the size of the nose etc...).
I learned a lot from this, and from Your comments, thank You very much once again :)

pokrad, I personally think you did a wonderful job. I'm a little late but at first glance I knew it was a younger Cash. once I saw the image over lays, I knew it was fine. Does it need tweaking.???.......yes. Is it recognizable.????........yes. Do I was one.????.......yes

I think you've done an excellent job with this, don't beat yourself up because it isn't perfect. It's a learning experience and you should be proud of the work you've produced.
The next one will be even better.
Scotty.

My brother is great fan of Johny Cash and he like it very, very much.So do I.
I think that he even have intention to buy and paint one .
One thing :collar on his jacket can be more rounded on the edges .Its look little thick and cut off if you can understand what I want to say on my broken English.
Otherwise is Johny in all his glory.
Congrats and wait to see your future projects.
By the way my brother ask is it to be commercial?
Cheers?

I'll be brutal to myself for no matter how hard I try I will never be able to come close to that. For you I have only praise.

Oda.

Wanted bust in Planet Figure
Wanted bust by all of us
No mater where this stands
It's gonna be a wanted bust (to be sung to the melody and rythm of Johny's "wanted man")

Oda.

Thank You guys for all the kind words. As I said in the first post: want to improve, and see some errors, but wanted to hear what other people think.
That is the reason why i posted it in the "Brutal Honesty". Every single crit is valuable, especially bad ones :)

Oda, never say "I can't do this", it is only a matter of practice and patience, believe me, I have no "talent", only many hours spent learning ;)

I did not wanted this to be commercial, it is non-standard scale (a bit larger than 1/6), and it will be a big chunk of resin.
Maybe in case of casting the back should be cut of diagonally as it contains only big single plain of the coat.
I can check with BAM that published some of my previous works, but I doubt that they will be interested as it does not fit in their line.

Worst case scenario, I could make few copies myself if my rubber did not harden and turn into stone, as I did not open that can for more than a year...
But then be prepared for casts that are bad, as I am terrible caster and I hate the casting process itself :)
