That's a fine piece! Commission work can really take the fun out of the hobby. Sometimes I wonder if the return on the investment of time and heart is truly worth it, especially when someone you're painting for does'nt appreciate the work that goes into painting and decides to trash your reputation behind your back. I'm sure that's happened to a great many of us who have done commission work, at least once. :angry:

Hey Dave,I agree with you.
If one takes into account the amount of hours invested in painting a figure,it just might not be worth it, albeit it does make it possible for us to buy those beautiful, but expensive kits that we all like.

Commissions can be nerve racking especially if it is figures that you wouldn't normally do. But it does enable us to purchase those kits that we otherwise might not be able to.

Hello Rocco

Nice work!

I'm interested in your use of violet for the shadows.Did you choose that color because it's complimentary to the yellow or do you always use violet for shading.

I ask because I'm new to figure and model painting and everyone I've talked to locally uses black for shading. I always quote Rembrandt who said that when looking at a painting, he always looks for purple in the shadows. If anyone would know I guess it would be him! When I mention this, they usually look at me like I had a third head. "No! No! You have to use black!", they say, as they beat me about my heads and shoulders. Though I still use violets and purples in my shadows.

Hey Mitch,
I use violet because it compliments yellow,and it produces a beautiful shadow on yellows.

Never use black to shade yellow, continue using violet and purple,your on the right track.black tends to dull colors.
