Robert and Lou,thanks for the complements, much appreciated.

Lou,it was nice seeing seeing you in Jersey, and yes, commissions are a pain in the neck.

Roc. :)

Nice work Roc,

That's a fine piece! Commission work can really take the fun out of the hobby. Sometimes I wonder if the return on the investment of time and heart is truly worth it, especially when someone you're painting for does'nt appreciate the work that goes into painting and decides to trash your reputation behind your back. I'm sure that's happened to a great many of us who have done commission work, at least once.

Nice work! :)

Hey Dave,I agree with you.
If one takes into account the amount of hours invested in painting a figure,it just might not be worth it, albeit it does make it possible for us to buy those beautiful, but expensive kits that we all like. ;)

Roc :)

Commissions can be nerve racking especially if it is figures that you wouldn't normally do. But it does enable us to purchase those kits that we otherwise might not be able to.

Nice work Roc. Back and side views are a little blurred though. It means I couldn't enjoy it as mucha as i wanted

Stephen Mallia

I think this picture might be a bit clearer.

Gret looking work Roc! I really like the whole composition of your figure. It (the wall) sets your figure off well. Great job on the yellows (y) . I wish I could paint that coolor as well as you did. Well, here the tough question. What's next?

Jim Patrick

Hey Jim and Stephen, thanks for the compliments much appreciated.

Stephen ,don't under estimate your self, your work is as good .

Jim,I've seen your work, you are a good painter. As far as what's next,I have two projects on the work bench, one is a 25 mm. vignette and the other is The 90mm Roman aquilifer,I'll keep you posted.

Roc. :)

Hello Rocco

Nice work!

I'm interested in your use of violet for the shadows.Did you choose that color because it's complimentary to the yellow or do you always use violet for shading.

I ask because I'm new to figure and model painting and everyone I've talked to locally uses black for shading. I always quote Rembrandt who said that when looking at a painting, he always looks for purple in the shadows. If anyone would know I guess it would be him! When I mention this, they usually look at me like I had a third head. "No! No! You have to use black!", they say, as they beat me about my heads and shoulders. Though I still use violets and purples in my shadows.

Mitch

Hey Mitch,
I use violet because it compliments yellow, and it produces a beautiful shadow on yellows.

Never use black to shade yellow, continue using violet and purple, your on the right track.black tends to dull colors.

I would love to see pictures of your figures, why not post one.

Roc. :)
