Great work Mike. He reminds me of characters from the Sharp books as well. Even thought he is not in an action pose he has a lot of attitude. He looks like he is about to dish out some frontier justice to some captured French troops.

I think it might have been more fun to have made his left hand tweaking his moustache rather than holding the cig. I'd like to paint one for sure.

The anatomy is brilliant as are the folds. Nothing lacking on this one. You da man!

The cigarette was deliberate and part and parcel of the figure from day one. I always figured it was part of the attitude of the figure as i saw it in my minds eye. It seems that cigarettes were a new thing and a great fad in Spain at the time of the peninsular wars. There are many period illustrations which show the Spanish smoking cigarettes from this time. They are shown as both white or brown (rolled up in tobacco leaves like cigars).

But hey, the hand is already in the right pose, it would be a cinch to adjust the arm for your idea. Besides, how can I make smokin' figures if they aren't smokin'? Thanks Matt!
