Hi guys just recently bought a French hussar off ebay, according to the seller he is supposed to be part of the retreat from Russia. My question is, how does everyone do snow bases? When I did GW miniatures I just used to paint sand white but I'm looking for a realistic effect.
Cheers Jonesy

Cheers Carl. I assume its just a case of PVA the base them dip it in the snow? I'm a huge fan of the powder stuff by the way.

Taf Just spread it gently, old tea strainer is great for it. Micro Ballons just sprinkle a little on the top pf the snow. It looks pretty real.
Whatever you do dont breath in the Micro Ballons, a mask would be safer.

OK, I didn't read each thread very closely. I will admit that going in.
But to me the best way to replicate snow is to use a product from
Woodland Scenics. Yes, I'm not a big fan of Woodland Scenics,
however, their Woodland Scenics Subterrain Foam Putty #ST1447
is the best product I've ever use for snow. . .

I used microballons mixed with gloss varnish and before getting hard, drop again microballons mixed with ice sparcles. You will see its like real!!(y)

Just PVA and baking soda can do marvels ( if it works, why pay more?). Some reccomend carpentry PVA instead of common stationery PVA - as apparently it goes yellow with time ( although some people will tell you it never happened to their fugures)

I'm a PVA and cream of tartar man myself.
But don't get any on your hair, I must have done some time ago cos it's all gone a kinda snowy/grey colour now and it won't wash out.
