I agree with Tony. I've got a couple busts of ancients and I just left the shields off. I'm not sure your figure 'needs' one either. But, if you really want to add it, I'd vote for the side.

You have gone for zenithal lighting, placing the shield would present a new light view.
If it was me I would leave it off for now.
But other than my inane waffling, lovely job,
Carl.

Thanks for the comments guys,(y) I guess maybe I`ll left the shield of, here`s a pic of it, the photo is not clearly but i can tell you the decoration I did sucks!!!:p Im not good to paint it, and guess if I add the shield could be bad for the entirely image:rolleyes: Thanks for your opinion vey much appreciate!(y)

Cheers

I think you're right to leave it off. There is no sling included across the figure's shoulder for it - so that rules out the back position, and it won't fit at all well positioned to the left either. Remember these parmae shields were gripped with a handle behind the boss. So the guy's fist would have to be behind the thing you've painted black on your shield. It just wouldn't look right at all. I've seen lots of images of this particular model and everyone else who's painted it seems to agree. No shield.

Edson i agree with Harry. Yet dont be to harsh on yourself. The shields pattern is great. I t just need some shadows and highlights on it and will look even better. Give it a try even if you dont place it in the end.

I like the shield and would use it...didn't Roman soldiers who were allowed to wear the wolfskin distinguish themselves in battle....and many of them were advance scouts?... or maybe I'm thinking of American Indians...I just feel the shield is an integral part of this individual's appearance.
Really nice job on the painting.

Thanks for your comments guys, at the end I decided not to include the shiel, still I`ll finish it and post some pics later

again thanks
Ed
