Every time you think the 'limit' of this hobby has been reached something comes along and surpasses it....as does this. Quite incredible!

Thanks Tommi.

Does this mean that SLA printing (had to look that up ;) ) is the go to for realising 3D sculpting or is that just an interim stage to make a master from which copies are cast?

Yes Neil that is correct. The masters are created on the high resolution resin SLA printer and these are used to make the production moulds for traditional vacuum or pressure casting.

Printing each kit on the printer would be very slow and not cost effective as they cost a lot of money to run in terms of the specialized resin used to form the master. In comparrison standard moulding resin is a fraction of the cost.

I'm a convert folks! I was skeptical of the whole 3D thing at first but I'm not to proud to admit that this work is amazing...don't want to even consider the cost though ;)
Cheers fro now.

Does this sound the death knell for 'man-made' sculpting?

I get no pleasure in asking this.
Don’t think so – any more than the introduction of digital artwork meant the end of ‘traditional’ media. The two can sit comfortably together. Obviously, it will make more sense for producers to be able to offer different scales of the same subject, which 3D sculpting will allow, if there’s the market.

Piece stunning..no death knell at all..for one thing crazy computer driven sculpts are often near impossible to build and paint for most..these are the early Wild West days of computer sculpting..very much the wow stage of new technology,,resin hasn’t killed metal..maybe at such time as we are all downloading and printing or pieces off rather than buying lumps of resin..but not yet

Moreover, translating major art pieces to miniatures almost inevitably loses something..this is a tech tour de force..but not quite as impressive at an artwork than other..take a look at Michael Kontraros sculpts..hand done..for better 3D sculpts..that not to minimize this one..just that the translation isn’t always as effective as fresh ideas..in terms of focus, light, compositional story

These are works of art "come to life."
Awesome in the true meaning of inspiring awe.
I hope they can be made available for purchase at a commercially reasonable cost and still be profitable to the artist.

Nice trend to see old masterpieces translated into 3d. There are (were) busts of Rembrandt "Polish gentleman 1637" and "Man Wearing Gorget and Cap." Perhaps I recall Carl Reid did these?

Mind you, they said in the 90s that vinyl was dead. But it's only a fraction of what it was though.

I'd be interested in hearing what any sculptors have to say on the matter.

Hi Guys

The sculptor is very skilled in his art , that's not in dispute , they are both amazing pieces of work , possibly too much for some painters due to the complexity and maybe the cost

There will always be traditional sculptors , as has been said by me in other posts it's another tool to use .

I have asked Farzad to join PF and share his work as well ..hope he does
