Some Questions For The Masses Ref. Figure Magazines And Articles

I bought during years lot of magazines related to figures modelling, allas those were not devoted to figures only but to all aspect of modelling
Today I buy only "Figurines" , publication is every 2 months and 100% figurines and the info are shorts and to the point . From there, if I need more
I go on the net .
I must say that in the 70ies and 80ies the best source for info was Military Modelling and mainly Attenshun and all the adverts in it
Figurines today is a large "Attenshun"

For me, I ask one question.
'Will it help my modelling?'
otherwise, I don't want to know.
Also goes back to the same old, same old. Why don't they print Figurines in English? I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.

Blind Pew!...... That is purely dependent on the type of modelling you do!... Most Magazines, are geared towards AVF, modellers... which is annoying!... However have a look at the Review section here on PF... That, might be a publication, that may tickle your fancy!

Blind Pew, I agree with you. That's pretty much why I started this thread. I feel that too many figure related magazines rely on the same publication "model" that was succcessful 10 or 15 years ago. Why hasn't Figurines realised there is a need for another English speaking magazine is beyond me. Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye? Maybe, but most of us just don't know.

Mark, I wish that some figure related magazines would look at not just the AFV mags, but the aircraft as well. Those guys really have their s**t together, so to speak. I still like to sit down and read a good, well written and well documented article regardless of the modeling genre.

Hmmmmmm, perhaps a new thread? Maybe I was asking the wrong questions.......

Jim, I guess I'm still old school. I like a good magazine. There are places you just can't carry the laptop!!! But I agree that the figure magazines have fallen way behind. I also agree that AFV/AIR mags are top of the line. The new Military Illustrated Modeller magazine is giving them a run for their money as best magazines in the hobby. But the online availability of show reports and what's new, can't compare. Maybe the best of both worlds would be a good online magazine that can be downloaded as well for those who like a hard copy. The Figure International magazine is a good one, my only complaint with it is the availability of it. The local bookstores or hobbyshops don't carry it. So it's hard to get copies. When I see them at shows or elsewhere I have to load up.

I usually by a magazine if as Blind Pew say: Can it help my modelling?

This usually boils down the Steve Zaloga articles in Military Modelling or articles in historical magazines. Or tips and tricks as well as tutorials of methods that Im not familiar with.
Often I find it frustrating that in most articles written for us figurepainters is that the main focus is on the paintmixes and very little if nothing at all about the method of blending used, which in my book is the hardest part?

What I dont need for sure and is a total waste of space is the reviews and news alerts in the magazines. They are not in depth like a Terry Ashleys or Guy Herricks and usually covers releases +6 months ago with few and small pictures.

I do suscribe to Amazing Figure Modeller to keep in touch with that part of the figurescene which almost nonexistant here in Scandinavia and not very much catered for in the rest of Europe either.
