Hello all,

For the past days the feeling 'crept' upon me that my white metal collection is missing something.

Well... the ratio of painted versus unpainted figures is not ok : the unpainted section being in the lead with appr. 80 % out of a total of 93.

Most of those are classical subjects, medieval, 16th - 17th century subjects, some Napoleonics and a few British Victorian/colonial.

All of a sudden it occurred to me that I have no American subjects. Custer's 7th cavalry is conspiciously absent for example.

This 'void' has to be filled:D. So ............. what glorious American subjects from say 54 mm up to 90 mm would some of you recommend?

I found a Texas cavalry trumpeter by Soldiers and this one by Romeo which I think looks rather nice: us-cavalry-sergeant.jpg

Although not a big fan of Andrea these two in 90 mm caught my attention:

Looking forward to any reflections and recommendations!

Cheers,

Paul

I would personally suggest you made a figure of one of the 'Buffalo soldier' regiments that are so often overlooked.
Or one of the infantry regiments thst trudged avross the plains
and are never portrayed in the movies.

Sounds good Paul. Who makes a good 'Buffalo Soldier'?

Paul

I bet you YOU will !

It's only a change to a coloured man's head on
whatever you buy.

if it' s a 54mm you can use a Shenandoah spare head in kepi or slouch hat. It could be really nice.
Paul.

Not made any of those, but really like the casual pose of the Romeo figure (what scale is he?) Romeo's are excellent quality IMO. Both Andrea figures are recent so should be good quality too. I'd recommend the 'True Grit' 54mm by Andrea which is sitting in the GA awaiting attention, but is such an instantly recognizable figure it's got to be in there somewhere . . .

The Art Girona Sgt is so characterful I'd recommend one without reservation
Cheers

Back again

Andrea miniatures have a series..'the americans' which is US Cavalry on foot and mounted.
Rob Hardwick did a super large scale figure but it's resin, and art girona have a nice range of 54mm USC too on foot and mounted.
any of them would make a good 'un.

All the best

Paul.

Thanks! It seems that the 19th of march is 'Paul Day' by the way.:D

[quote="pose of the Romeo figure................ [/quote]. Yes If like that one too.

Was a bit worried that the smaller scale Andrea's look a bit like a cross over between John Wayne-Gary Cooper-Richard Wildmark and James Stewart sculpted by John Ford of course.

Cheers,

Paul

At Paul 2: the Romeo is in 54 mm and looks very good. With a suitable coloured person's head it would make a very nice 'Buffalo Soldier'.

I know next to nothing about the subject although I grew up with westerns. Actually until Paul 1 hinted at it I didn't know what a Buffalo Soldier is. Did they form the backbone of the cavalry? Is there a good book on this subject?

Paul

Did a quick recce on Wiki......did they bear the brunt of the fighting during the Indian Wars? From what I read they weren't treated particularly well. Poor sods.

Paul you are forgetting Sergeant York and then there was this , a brilliant made for TV movie . I have it on VHS tape and must get it saved to memory stick before I lose it .

Fact based story about the all-black US Cavalry Troop H which protected the Western territories in post Civil War times. The story focuses on the troops attempts to capture an Apache ...See full summary »

Rossbach you should take a look at the Andrea Golden West series there's some good stuff there . 54 mm Mounted figures , True Grit , George Custer , John Wayne from Fort Apache and plenty of US cavalry mounted figures .
Happy hunting

There used to be a fig. from Andrea of a USC sheltering behind a prone horse, and a few arrows in 54mm. Don't know if it#s still available, and, of course,Steve Warrilow did a series of the 7th. Cav. called "The Greasy Grass" Ray.

The Steve Warrilow range is now produced by B M Miniatures.

Personally, I really Romeo's Federal Artillery Driver (75mm) based on the art by Keith Rocco. I think the sculpt is really well done. Though the 54mm mounted Romeo kit you showed is also a great one. I really like the pose on him.

There's also this one from FER Miniatures (75mm scale)

Well you got me thinking in different directions as a result of the original question my dear Ross Bach.

I have now added some of the monuments to the buffalo soldiers to my thread 'In memoriam or inspiration'.
I have since even discovered a woman openly served amongst the men in one of the coloured Cavalry Regiments !
I think I would look at Shenandoah miniatures for the most ready source of multiple figure choices.

Have you narrowed things down yet yourself?

[Have you narrowed things down yet yourself?] Found several. I like the Romeo mounted 54 mm and Son of the Morning Star by Andrea in 90 mm. The one below I also rather like.

That is THE stand out item for me, along with the
Romeo mounted trooper at rest.

Good luck with not buying them all !
:) Paul.

I really like that Romeo figure too.

Obvious hole in your collection is American Civil War! Lots of great models on that subject...Will search for some 54 mm and post as I find them.
