Soviet Uniforms in Afghanistan

Hey guys,

I'm workin on this figure, just got him all cleaned up but was wondering if there's something more interesting i can do with his uniform, other than all black..? anyone a specialist on soviet uniforms ?

There is a beautiful colour plate by Volstad on the Osprey Men at Arms #178, "Russia's War in Afghanistan" on which the figure seems based.
If you like camos, during the Chechenia war a lot of patterns was in use. The following pictures shows you something (sorry, but I dont remember from where I downloaded them).

and about camos, look at the jacket of the guy in the center, the man with the tanker helmet and the kalashnikov, it resembles the old one from usmc...

Thank you very much for all the beautiful photos - i am a little confused though!! Are these uniforms in the photos acceptable for afghanistan as well ? I don't have ANY photo reference from that war but i would like to use some of the uniforms in the photos...

Hi Alex,
the overall black uniform, also weared by others afv crews, is the winter version. Somewhere I see another picture of two Russian crews on a T-55 in Afghanistan wearing the same (winter) jacket you can see on the last picture I post.
I do not have any colour picture of Russian tankers in Afghanistan, but as you can see on the following (_supposed_ to be taken in Afghanistan), there is a camo jacket on the gun barrel.
In spite of what are showing the official photos, Russians makes an extensive use of camo uniforms, and seeing the battlefield pictures it seems a very large set of them has been used by most units. But this is just my opinion after seeing a lot of pics, I have no evidence about tankers.

Thank you very much for all your help !! looks like i'm going with the beige jacket and leather pants !!
