Hi guys,

Please take a moment to spare a thought & quick prayer for fellow Kiwi planeteers - Andy Cairns, John Belcher & Les Smith who's home city of Christchurch, NZ was hit by a 7.4 earthquake this morning.

Like you I'm hoping that they & their loved ones are all safe & well, without any serious harm to their family, home & possessions.

Look forward to hearing from them soon, though comms out of the city are ropey at present.

Kind regards,

Mike

Thanks guys ,We appreciate your concern however we are not out of the woods yet with some minor tremors still present.
Damage is wide spread with some areas hit harder than others. We are still lucky with little damage apart from a Book shelf toppling over.We have no injuries and luckily no one has died as a result of the Earthquake.
Regards
Andy

My best wishes and prayers to all our brothers across the Tasman and hope your families and friends are OK too. Glad to hear Planeteers in Christchurch have all reported in safe and sound. Sounds like there is alot of damage and destruction but thankfully very little loss of human life.

Son lives in Queenstown so watching this carefully. Wonderful news is that no one has died from this disaster. The city seems to have suffered but could have been so much worse so New Zealand is certainly doing something right regarding earthquakes.
Glad you guys are all OK and with luck, despite the aftershocks you are suffering, you will manage to get the city up and running again.

Don

Hi to all back home in NZ,

Hope all you guys are ok, seen some of the pics on the net and looks like some of those old colonial buildings have taken a battering, good to hear no fatalities.

Kind regards,

Callum.

Many thanks guy's for your best wishes. Yes it has been quite harrowing and still many aftershocks which is keeping everyone on edge, for myself, I can report that all my family are ok and damage is minimal to date. As I type this we have just had another small after shock, so it seems never to end. Once again thankyou all. Les

NZ Quake & Victorian floods

Sad to see so many historic buildings so badly damaged, but buildings can always be rebuilt. Thankfully human casualties have been minimal.

Thoughts also with those involved in the big floods in Victoria, Australia.

Hello guys, thank you all so much for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers. We were all so very lucky here in Christchurch New Zealand that the Earthquake hit at 4.35am on Saturday the 4th of September and not later in the day when many people would have been walking the streets. It was a miracle that there were no deaths. All my family were okay apart from my son Marcus who had a Tv and cabinet fall on his legs while he was sleeping, but thankfully did not cause any major injury. My son Karl had gone into the central city earlier that evening with friends to some night clubs they are normally out till the early hours , but that night he forgot his wallet and decided to come home earlier, a blessing in disguise, because many of the buildings in the streets that they walk down were hit bad with whole walls collapsing out onto the road. We were very lucky that our house only had minor damage to the structure. More damage inside to cabinets shelves ect…lots of ornaments broken and about 9 of my models. We just got water back on last night, something you take for granted until it isn’t there. As mentioned by others lots of Historic buildings and business destroyed ,and also many homes, new and old in some areas also destroyed . Estimates of damage at this stage are $4billion plus. We have had to date 270 after shocks with a 5.1 at a depth of 6klm yesterday morning, this after shock was very strong being only a depth of 6klm causing more damage to the city and to the Port of Lyttelton which is only 15 minutes from where we live. They are predicting a larger after shock in the next 48hours in the region of 6.1. Hope they are wrong.

Kindest Regards, John

Hi John,

Great to hear you're OK mate. Sorry to hear that your son was hurt but it sounds like his guardian angel was with him that night. Considering the damage to other parts of town you seem to have escaped the worst of it. Hopefully the aftershocks won't be too bad and things can start to eturn to somekind of normalcy soon.

Our thoughts are with you and all our Kiwi mates.
