Mongo Mel
A Fixture
Hi,
I had something strange happen recently and was wondering if anyone else had encountered this before.
I was painting the display sample of a garage kit figure being produced by two guys in my model club. The piece was cleaned and primed (Krylon) with plenty of time to cure. When I began painting with oils, I quickly noticed that the oils were actually drying as I was spreading them across the piece.
No kidding...they were thickening and beginning to dry that fast! The brush was sticking in the paint and there were clumps forming.
The primer and paints were the same ones I've used for everything else I've painted and it was happening with several different colors so I don't believe it was the paint.
I asked one of the manufacturer guys if anyone else had had this problem too. He said no one mentioned anything to him but that they hadn't done too many other kits yet.
After stripping everything and repriming, I undercoated the pieces with a spray can of Krylon acrylic paint and no more problem.
So, I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this problem.
Thanks in advance
Craig
