Richard brought it up.

Now, thanks to the action figure technology, you can have realistic, durable and CHEAP mannequins with 30+ flexible joints (!) for the princely sum of $20. (y) (y) (y)

For the price, you'd like to get the female model, too like I did. In fact I prefer the female 'lighter' proportions.

In any case, they're much, much more usable than the old wooden (and expensive) variety.

I saw these in the Flax art supplies catalog the other day. It looks like it might be a Maxx Steel toy. Nonetheless, they are pretty well articulated.

Wow

Thanks Quang; what an excellent Idea! Thanks for sharing.

Ever tried posing a figure using software like Poser? Guess not with the Action figure.

Rob

Rob,

I bought Poser when it was first released.

A major disappointment. It's no improvement from the mannequin, at least to us putty pushers. You still have to know about balance, how the muscles interact, the lot... I used the software just once. It's resting on the cupboard since.

I find it easier to work with the Sideshow mannequin. Sometimes I use my Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figure which is also very well articulated.

I also have a Zorro action figure whose 'Z' on the chest lights up when you raise his arm. But that 's another story

I've got Poser as a freebie from magazines and have never really used it. I do find all this 3D stuff fascinatng.

I do love the mannequin. I have an old wooden one from my school days that is so limited in it's range of movements that it's more of an ornament. I have just ordered the sideshow one. Makes so much sense!

I've resisted buying these things for years....nice to know others out there enjoy these things! (wish my mum and dad hadn't given away my action man stuff from the attic!).

Rob

What I won't give to have a Jackie Brown or Kill Bill action figure in the same quality as the Buffy

Yes, you've guessed. I LIKE Tarantino's movies.

I recently bought two Dragon action figures as christmas presents to myself (well actually they are going to be from my wife but she left the buying to me ...:).

Apart from being really cool one reason for wanting them was the idea of using them as mannequins, so it's great to see that others also have thought of this. Shows that I'm not completely off the beaten path :)

Quang, I was going to suggest the Sideshow mannequins myself versus the wooden kind. These are a great resource for the veteran as well as budding sculptor. Neat stuff.~Gary

Staffan,

You lucky guy. It's a big NO NO from my wife. Especially the military stuff.

But I did succeed to smuggle in some weirdo stuff like the Buffy, the Li Mu Bai from 'Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon' and the Elvis from 'Jailhouse Rock'.

Nevertheless, that Chinese MiG Pilot from BBI looks VERY nice Still four weeks to work out my 'friendly persuasion' routine. Before Christmas!

Hi all

Just to let you know, my mannequin FINALLY arrived today (order went missing in Xmas post) and it is bloomin' great!!!

Cheers Quang, for sharing this!

Finally? That's what I'd call 'snail mail' ;)

Glad you like the mannnequins. They look very convincing sitting down with their legs dangling. Also check out the beautifully sculpted hands.

Enjoy! (y)
