Hi there ,
I stumbled across this firm on Etsy.com who produce mainly fantasy gaming figures but there are also a range of great looking Romans, both full figures and busts.
Just go onto Etsy.com and search for RealmShaper, then look under “Minormous”, to see the full range
These figures can apparently be produced in a variety of scales.
I must stress I have no involvement with this company whatsoever but thought the figures look good enough to bring to your attention.

The full figure looks almost identical to the old Pegaso 75mm 'Praefectus Classis' piece with some cosmetic alterations to the armour and helmet. Also, a senior officer like this would wear the Gladius only on the left side (never the right as shown here) which was solely for legionnaires to allow them to draw the Gladius in a shield wall using their right hand in a reverse 'twist' action to avoid obstruction with their scutum (shield).

Nice work irrespective and any scale sizes please?

Gary

Hi Gary,
suggest you have a look at the website as there are lots of variations available. The busts are 1/10 whereas there is a choice in scale with the full figures: from foot to eye: 55mm, 90mm, 120mm or 145mm ranging in price from £19 to £50. The busts are £43…..which all seems reasonable.
Nigel.

Hello.
I've been onto to etsy.com and have searched as you suggested and I cannot find anything. All I find is 7 search results with wargamming scenery.
Please help? Can you please share the address?
Thank you and sorry for my incompetence.

Jonathan it's exacty as described. Go to Etsy, type RealmShaper in the search box When it comes up you should see a menu on the left, scroll down and click on Minormous.
Tried it on 3 different types of device with no problem. Hope it works.

...and not the only obvious Pegaso rip-off on there either. Not good.

I know what you mean but at least it's not a recast.
Clearly they've swiped the pose and the expression but there are significant differences to make for an interesting debate.
After all there are only so many ways a figure can naturally stand equipped like this.
That being said I'm always wary of stuff on Etsy.

After you search, there is this line at top: Did you mean the shop RealmShaper?. Click on that link.

If you 3d print you can also purchase the files here:

So for me this is recasting through the back door. On a borderline, admittedly, so that it is difficult to challenge legally.

The figure is clearly based on the Preafectus classis from "Pegaso". Although it has changed in details, its origin can be clearly seen.

If the 3-D sculptor creates his own figures, then I'll be happy to show them in my forum. But even intelligently done recasting remains recasting - and that doesn't happen with me!

However, I asked the users for their opinion - let's see what they say ...

I wouldn't buy the figure anyway, because senior officers among the Romans didn't walk around in Caligae, but in Calcii - and also wore their swords on their left side. And they did for sure not wore a cingulum belt of ordinary soldiers.

(All of these details are rightly shown at the "Pegaso"-figure!)

And the most important reason for me not to buy him: He's not a Cossack!

Cheers

Thanks for sharing these , the full figure does seem to be very close to the Pegaso one , bust looks nice

Like others I avoid Etsy preferring to buy from known reputable company's

I can see some similarities with the Pegaso figure but to my eyes the pose does differ and the differences in the armour/costume etc are much more than 'cosmetic variations'. Whatever its genesis, I can't see how it can be counted as a re-cast (or its hi-tech piracy equivalent of a scanned/modified copy).

If you think about it, there are bound to be similarities between poses* (especially basics such as marching/present/firing/loading etc) and as we so often see, many figures have been 'inspired' by paintings, illustrations, photos, movies/TV, statues etc (some of which do in fact infringe copyright).

It also offers interesting arm/head options. See below:

The inaccuracies Martin and others have noted stand (despite the site stating that figs are "....created to be as historically accurate as possible").

*isn't there also a bon mot that there are only six tunes... and Mozart (or The Beatles) wrote them all?

I’ll add there should be no balteus clip on the legionary and the segmentata has rolled edges where it shouldn’t. The standing figure is more of a praetorian guard.
