Hangar 18 Miniatures HiDef Tabletop Photo Backdrops

Hangar 18 Miniatures proudly presents our first product line: High Definition Tabletop Photo Backdrops for Miniatures. Our HiDef photo backdrops are printed on an 11 x 17 in. durable yet flexible fabric that is water resistant and does not produce glare. If a backdrop gets dirty, you can simply wipe it with a damp cloth. This fabric can also be ironed or steamed to smooth it back when it gets wrinkled. Iron the backdrop face down on the ironing board.

The first set comes with 6 different studio quality textures, from the classic portrait background to the modern grungy texture. These photo backdrops will enhance the photos of your miniatures, making them look like they've been taken in a professional photo studio setting. No more spending time removing the plain background and replacing it with the digital background in Photoshop.

Here are the photos taken using the textures in the Studio Series set:

Green Gold ($14.99)

Northern Sky ($14.99)

Antique Parchment ($14.99)

Grunge ($14.99)

Antique Leather ($14.99)

Midnight ($14.99)

Installation is very simple. If you own a photo booth, such as EZ Cube, it will fit into the smallest 12" EZ Cube - the popular photo booth for taking photos of miniatures. Simply lay the backdrop on top of the fabric that comes with EZ Cube (or any other photo booth) and you are good to go.

If you would like to have a more secured mount, you can use the following: paper clip, masking tape or velcro tape.

Each individual backdrop costs $14.99. When you buy the complete set of 6 photo backdrops, they only cost you $74.99(You get one free!)

Nice idea, but will it make me take better photograph's!!!

Hi Richie,

All those photo samples were done at my house and taken with simple lighting layout and with older generation of Canon Rebel camera. Good ambient lighting is your friend in photography. This will safe your time editing your photo to remove unwanted background and replacing it with digital background.

Hope that helps :)

I am probably going to get hauled over the coals for what I am about to say but here goes. What a grossly overpriced rip-off. I cannot contemplate how anybody would consider paying that money for this. For the cost of one of these sheets anybody with a cheap inkjet printer, some reasonable quality paper and access to free stock photos on the internet could produce 50 backdrops. They may not be so durable but how often are these things going to be used for heavens sake. Good luck to these guys if they think they are going to make a living out of this. Perhaps they should go on 'Dragons Den' (Shark Tank in the US) and get an opinion from them.

Ken, everyone has their own opinion and belief :)

Carl, thanks for the friendly warning. We have good intention to show the textures with minimal "protection" so people can see what they are getting :)

I myself have tried to do DIY photo backdrop as you described in your reply only to find how much I spent on ink and toner to print a full size letter paper (8.5 x 11 inch) in high resolution graphic. The one you see on our site is tabloid size (11 x 17 in). Inkjet photo paper also produces glare and same with color laser.

Just want to help out those who need different variety of photo backdrop rather than the classic black or blue fabric

You obviously do not have a great deal of knowledge about printing if you cannot produce a glare free print with an inkjet printer. You do not need to use photo paper and there are numerous textured papers that can add to the effect. And as for needing high resolution anyway for the type of pattern you provide is debatable as it is an indistinct background producing no sharp detail. Even if I produced an 8.5 x 11 print and took it to a print shop for enlargement it would only cost me a fraction of your cost. I do not wish your business any harm but this slips into the same category as highly priced "photo improvement' DVD's that tell you that they are going to make you better photographers. Most of us are modellers and the photography element is a little aside. I would rather spend $74.99 on a quality figure.

I have printed off backgrounds before onto matte paper and they still have a touch of shine where it curls. This is a niche product for modellers who take high quality pictures of their figures for contests and forums that require better pictures. I do agree Ken, that it does seem like a high price but one only has to spend it once and it is a low volume seller that required some investment to produce. I'm not saying that I think you are wrong, I just think you probably could have been nicer about it.

It was not my intention to be 'not nice' but not sure how else I could express my opinion that these are grossly overpriced. I live in the Dominican Republic (a third world country apparently) and this afternoon I went to a milliners were I could have purchased several swatches of cloth depicting antique leather, grunge and so forth with no shine and all for much less than $14. I have in my hand now a sheet of antique parchment printer paper which is identical to the one shown from Hangar 18, which again has no shine and which could be used as is to get the same effect. I repeat that I do not wish their business any harm but in my opinion it is a rip off.

I for one don't think $15 is too bad, for what looks like quality useful product.

Actually it's a pretty damned clever idea for a product, and definitely a corner of the market that has not yet been explored. Entrepreneurship should be encouraged and I applaude your efforts.

Ken,

Since you feel this is such a heartless rip off, and you can get the same product for next to nothing, how about you take a page out of the good ol' American playbook and start your own product line and sell it for cheaper, thus creating competition and as a result drive the prices down, and all that while making a buck to boot, can't beat that!

Well I expected some flac but I can take it. Just like to point out a few things.
1. I am not American.
2. I did not say heartless rip off I said rip off. If these guys can get $15 a shot for these very good luck to them.
3. I would not start my own product line even if I did want to start working for a living again. They have not cornered the market because there is no real market. Certainly not one to create a business. There are commercial light cubes and lots of people make their own out of household items. There are commercial back cloths and lots of people make their own. There is Photoshop (expensive) and freeware options (much cheaper).
Once again I state I do not wish these guys any harm and good luck to them if they succeed. It is not the idea which I am anti to, but the cost.
I apologise unreservedly if my comments have offended but I stand by them.

No need to apologize, and absolutely no offense taken on this end re your comments. I just find your disdain for this venture intriguing, and my heartless statement was a tounge in cheek line regarding your constant harping at how much of a rip off this is and how there is no market for it (how you know? Tried it and didn't work out?) . Being American has nothing to do with anything btw, (I'm a native Swede) but saddly you seem insulted by the notion.

Either way, the good news is you don't have to buy it, and the even better news is that it is available to buy for those so inclined.

Anders not insulted either and, no havn't tried selling something like this. If I had and I was trying to market it on this website I would actually be grateful if members were honest about the cost. I could have been nice and kept my mouth shut and then after 666 views to the thread there would have been two people out of all the PF members who said they liked it. If I harped it was because I was frustrated at the lack of honesty. Then again, maybe I am the only member who thinks they are not cheap. Say no more.
