I picked this "Tales Of The North" fella up at Euro a couple of weeks ago (Mr. Kirtley delivers the goods again!).

Haven’t seen many of them painted up yet, so here’s my own take (so far) on this very nice resin piece which seems to have one foot in the “historical” camp and the other in fantasy. It's tagged as a 75mm but is actually an 80mm, and the crisp, sharp detail on it is superb. Mr. Serebryakov
is to be warmly congratulated on such an excellent sculpt.

Apart from the base, the right hand holding his axe, a sabre-toothed face mask (which I’m not using) and a weapons quiver that projects out the top of his bearskin cape at the back, the whole figure is cast as a single piece. This makes painting a tad tricky in places (for me anyway!) but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Still to do:

1) Headband in hair at the back
(only just noticed this!)
2) More highlighting of the bearskin cape
3) Left hand & metal wrist guard
4) Highlight & shading of the horn
5) Right hand with axe
6) Ornate gilt decorations on belt (not over the moon with the results there so far)
7) Chainmail highlighting on back of figure
8) Lower legs & feet shading & highlighting
9) Base
10) The odd minor touch-up here & there.

Constructive critique welcome.

Hi Steve,
Great start on a great figure. The only thing that really stands out to me as needing to be fixed is the highlights on his forehead and nose. To me on the forehead they appear as two stripes, I think what you need to do is join them in the middle of the forehead from about halfway up, right up to his hairline. On his nose I think you have taken the highlight slightly too far down and the tops of the nostrils could do with a little more to match up with the rest of his nose.

Hope that's helpful,
Andrew

Blimee Steve you dont waste much time. Does the base come with the kit, have not opened mine to look at it yet. Great start, will be following.

Cheers
Tommi

Tommi - yes, the base with the big skull is included. And yes you're right, I was quite fast out of the blocks with this one. In recent years I've established a bit of a "post-Euro ritual" of starting a figure I picked up there and just cracking on with it until it's done, no matter what else I have on the go at the time.

It means that one "lucky figure" jumps the queue big-time while others remain unstarted in the ever-expanding Grey Army or continue to languish part-finished in the "Parade Of Shame". But at least it means I actually get something finished within a reasonable time, LOL!

I've done a bit more on him over the weekend since I took these photos. Will post up the finished article hopefully sooner rather than later!
