Afternoon all

I though it was time to get back to my favourite 54mm scale and no better way to start than with one of Stormtroopers "Troop 54" range. I wanted to do a Napoleonic subject and this chap took my eye. It is nicely sculpted and a "true" 54mm. Detail is crisp and there are few issues in cleaning it up. I did get a bit over-enthusiastic with the razor saw when removing the mould plug from the left elbow. A blob of filler remedied that. I pinned the arms and they may also need a very slight wipe of filler to tidy them, but no issues there. Here's the kit so far:

As you can see, a nicely sculpted face which will be the first job when I'm back at the bench. This will be an all-acrylic project (Vallejo and Scalecolour). Thanks for looking in(y)

Hi Phil,

Great choice of subject and with quality sculpting and casting for you to work ...a change from a previous project !

A face full of character and detail

Colourful uniform as well which you will no doubt enjoy

Look forward to seeing this come alive

Happy benchtime

Right chaps - today's session involved painting the face, for which I used various Scale 75 facial colours, which I am getting to like. These aren't the tube-based ones, just the standard ones in bottles, but they work nicely, especially if you use their recommended mixes.
I thought the missing tassel on the bicorne was loose in the package, but it turned out to be a small piece of scrap resin, so that's gonna have to be fabricated before close of play. I'll fashion one from a piece of scrap plastic.
So, the face was blocked in using S75 Pale Flesh and the basic shading was added:

I pushed on and got the plumes and braiding blocked in too:

Next sitting I will finish the head (including that missing tassel). Thanks for your comments so far, much appreciated(y) !

Phil,
I like the slight upward tilt you’ve added to his eyes, gives an extra layer of character to the face.

Thanks Chris. Eyes are quite key to how a face can look. I try to paint my irises in positions other than straight ahead. As you say, it adds another dimension. It helps if the eyes are well sculpted, which these are. The last project was anything but.

Cheers

Evening all.

Pushed on and finished the head this session. I replaced the missing tassel on the bicorne, just need to build up the shaped end of it with superglue. The base that comes with the figure is a simple flagstone pattern, which coincidentally is exactly the size of a plinth I have in stock, so that saves a bit of Miliput. Here's where he's at:

May need a bit more highlight on the feathers but I'll revisit them when I do the final inspection and tidying. Tomorrow I'll crack on with the body.
