I can see the argument for both camps here but if it came to a vote I would steer clear as I think that would devalue what I do. That does not mean that others shouldn't use them if they feel the need. I know Archers do a range of texturing decals so there would be nothing to stop us using this on a cape or blanket to get a textured look without much painting ability. The bottom line for me is if you are satisfied with how your figure looks then how you achieved it is up to you.

I'm not against the idea of decals although I am in favour of learning how to paint this kind of thing. My main reservation is simply that I don't think it would be practical - the way the kilt can be sculpted is highly variable at larger sizes, making decalling difficult at best and impossible at worst.

Like other commentators I think the effort to paint tartan convincingly is the way to go for me so probably would not use decals in this way and as a sometime plane modeller always find decals to be a tad unconvincing when allied to a weathered paint job...but remain to be convinced ...cheers

I got, (nicely), ripped apart,..and in the most gentile, of fashions, in other words 'Mugged' !,. from thinking they already existed!.. but even then I thought surely this is possible?.. Ta-Da!.. I for one would be interested!.. the size and scale can be altered, via a photo-copier, prior to print on the decal sheet!... I'm in support of this!! as this element could also be used as a template for the purist's, and for the novice alike! ... every little thing helps!

Stuart, as some on here know! I have a disablement, which affects a lot of my sensory feeling! so there are a lot of scales, and fantastic sculpts that are simply beyond my capability, but not my general painting knowledge. However! .. do I have to pass on anything/everything that has Tartan in it? , because such elements are only for the able purist's that are capable of developing such a skill! .. Hence, this is why I think it would be a cracking idea..

But your idea of further developing this thread to include Celtic designs, is also a very good idea!... It allows the 'Ham-Fisted', and the 'Knackered', and even those with less than perfect vision!.. to approach some figures that have been previously off the list of 'Want to do',..

Great idea Stu. Would help a lot of people out and help improve their figures. I was also thinking they could be used as a shadow just to follow the pattern while painting by hand.
