To coincide with the 60th. anniversary of the end of WW2 I am hoping to paint a model of a Telegraphist Air Gunner of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, to present to my father who served on the Atlantic convoys and the Scandavian patrols. As this will be a surprise I obviously can't ask the usual questions which would help in the project. I am looking for help in sourcing a stock figure (54-90mm) in flying kit, any differences between the FAA kit and RAF kit, and uniform colours (i have lots of his photos-all B&W!). Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Come on you guys, surely with all that combined knowledge, someone must have a suggestion to help. 150 reads and not one eureka moment from anyone. Have I picked a subject that has everyone googlewhacked!!!!! Been browsing this site for a while, along with others, and thought the great depth of combined knowledge which is apparent in the forums would be the answer to my prayers. Can anyone rise to the challenge?

Graham-

Got no idea. I'd tell you if I knew. :)

But, you may consider contacting either veterans organizations, RN archivists, RN museums? A couple of calls or emails might do the trick for you.

Hi Keith. Have tried all the sites available (Fleet Air Arm. Fleet Air Arm Association etc.) but not much help there. Mostly photos of the ships and planes, not the guys who flew them! Plenty of details available on ubiform, but not flying kit!! The few photos I have managed to find are either very grainy or blurred. If anyone can suggest a stock figure (WW2 British pilot?) which could undergo a few minor coversions, that would be great. Problem I have is that my father would be the best person to ask as he has what appears to be a photographic memory for this sort of thing; anything amiss and he will spot it straight away!.

Graham-

I thought maybe contacting another vet might help. :(

Personally, I think that it's great you are doing this for your Dad. One suggestion is that maybe an even better present for him would be to do the project with him? :)

When you do complete the figure, I'd love to see it. You can post it here or send me an email.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Keith

Graham,
For references and asking questions about uniform details, try this site: http://acepilots.com/forum/ Lots of interesting stuff there. If you're open to 120mm, Verlinden and Fort Royal Review had RAF pilot figures.

Poste militaire did Sailor Malan from 1940 , as far as an observer from WW2 I don't know of any. WW1 fusilier do some aircrew.
