Great work Olga. I do like the subtle texturing of the 'Surcoat, Cloak, and Gloves'! it all adds to the feel and realism of the piece. May I ask how you approached this aspect ?
What they call tempera in St petersburg is actually the ancestor of modern acrylic paint. Instead of acrylic binder, PVA binder is used (same stuff you can find in PVA glue).
Real tempera is when you use real eggs and I doubt that's what Olga uses (because if has many shortcomings).
Here is a link to these 'tempera' paints. http://www.nevskayapalitra.ru/eng/production/tempera
Please note that I only know one and only one manufacturer making these paints (made in Russia).
I still question myself about the longevity of those paints. We have a lot of experience with oils (centuries) and a few decades with regular acrylics, but those, no proven track record.
Thank you Alex! You explained everything very well!!!
Exactly! Yes, I use tempera Nevskaya Palitra. We use tempera PVA for decades and tempera showed good properties.
Sincerely,
Olga.
