Firstly I would like to pass my thanks on to so many of you who have sent private messages of support and posted support here on Planet. My threat to leave the forum was not an idle one and at the finish of this post I am cancelling blog trotter which keeps me up to date with the news on the forum. I've enjoyed my time but this for me is the last post.

I see that the Planet Figure Management have seen fit to close down my thread before I had a chance to answer the final Barb from Stu, that " I had opened up the forum to recasters" although the rationale for that piece of educated thinking escapes me Stu I shall in future hold myself personally responsible for recasts sold on Ebay to PF members all 6500 of them-I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep at night under such a weight of responsibility.

That the thread was closed down in my opinion is symptomatic of a current lack of democracy on the forum...........why was the thread closed? Who made that decision and the decision to exclude any links to recasters? should that not be put to a vote? It has been a contentious issue for many years and it isn't going to go away, open discussion I have always found to be more productive than pretending it is not happening. Just look back on previous posts over the years and see the helpful advice that has been given to members who have raised queries about this or that recaster.

If honest discussion and the airing of views is not to be a feature of the forum, or threads closed down without reference then I am glad to say that I will no longer be part of it.

Thanks again I know who my friends are, no doubt I will see many of you in two weeks at White Rose Club an organisation that will appreciate and continue to get my wholehearted support.

Keith

Keith ,

You will be a loss for sure and I as we no doubt all do wish you to stay but if that is your decision then we all respect it .

Perhaps my slightly sarcastic comment was taken in the wrong way by you and I am sorry it led to all the other comments (now deleted I believe) but I really felt bad about your words .

I was going to PM you with an olive branch but I doubt if you would have replied

Best wishes

Regards

Kevin

I think that it is a shame that it came to this. Whatever: In the Prussian Army there was a habit that serious complaints, requests to resign etc were not accepted by superiors before the complainant did not sleep one more night till the next morning and was therefore able to reconsider his point of view. I think that this was a wise habit and should be tested in the current situation.
Hopefully see you tomorrow Keith.....
Cheers, Martin

I am so very sorry to see you leave Keith. It's unfortunate that the typed message is so open to being misconstrued & I felt that the original thread was beginning to run out of control which was why I suggested the thread be closed. I don't know if my request was instrumental in closing the thread & I'm sorry if you felt that you had been denied a right to reply.
We did meet once when you bought some figures from me & your enthusiasm for the hobby was so evident.

Best wishes.
Geoff

I hope you reconsider as you always have been a good and well liked member.
We need Figureteers like you.

Cheers
Janne Nilsson

I do hope you reconsider your decision Keith. PF will be a far poorer place without you mate!

I have only just read the thread tonight. It was already closed by the time I'd got to it.
I feel emotion took over, and as we all know, emotions and keyboards don't mix.
Hopefully tomorrow the world will seem a little better.

Carl

Very well put Carl.

Keith mate, I closed the thread (at the request of Geoff and others) because it had degenerated into a slanging match and looked like it was on the point of getting very nasty with insults, accusations and recriminations flying backwards & forwards thick and fast. I apologise if you feel you were not given the chance to reply to Stu's last comments, but then no doubt he'd then have wanted to reply to yours, then you again to his ... and so on and so on. Where do you draw the line? Where does it end?

When Tommi invited me to be a moderator and I accepted, I told myself that I was going to limit myself mainly to "housekeeping" and other "background" stuff, and that I wasn't going to start wading in shutting threads down on a whim and reading out the riot act etc., because going down that road is a sure way to lose friends and not impress people. So believe me, closing the thread was not something I did lightly. I hope though that having slept on it you will appreciate my reasons for doing so and that we will still be having a drink together at WR in a couple of weeks because I have nothing but the greatest respect for you as a friend, as a painter and as an all-round top bloke.

- Steve

Well, this just goes to show a very old and recurrent story: In times of bad news, it is easier to kill the messenger instead of solving the problem.

Please people - all you flaming Keith, and now look at the sad outcome - There was nothing of nothing wrong in Keith's attitude. For God's sake - anyone can type www.ebay.com and then search "bust". Hiding links or placing them bold is exactly the same - eBay's site is one of the tenth more visited in the world! Figure this out once and for all.

The problem is isolated - it is not pasted links and it is not either vendor A or vendor B or vendor C ... sooner vendor Z will exist too. The denominator is common: some people are taking advantage of eBay to distribute illegitimate products. We recognize figures, but probably there are watches or pens out there too, however I don't distinguish a counterfeit Montblanc from a real Montblanc because I don't care about Montblancs.

But I care about figures :sorry: and all involved.

Dear friends, specially Firm owners and Re-sellers: We understand how this situation hits you and how nervous you justifiably get. But please realize that the guys typing here are your biggest assets: You flame one, you flame 100 - it is always like this. Hit people in the middle of hard emotions and soon customers will payback trading products from those links - please but please believe me: That's how people move once driven by emotions: "who does he thinks he his, I'll hit him in his yard ...". Familiar speech? Anyone had a warm moment before at a Cafe store, or cloth store - remember your thoughts! "I'll never come here again, my money goes somewhere else" This is the customer. Every one is a customer of something and reacts the same way! Think introspectively about it!

Guys, let's see if we can close the boiling pan for good! Keith, please remain, I love your opinions and your expertise in life, and I love Kevin's reviews too. Heck! I also traded with Steve too ... see how this is a family here! Does brothers need to bully themselves when the problem is not us, the modelers?

Obviously not!

In the meantime, bet with me - the people from all those links Kevin posted are taking a great laugh of all this. They are increasing sales while people here are slamming the guys who took the guts to warn about what was going on.

Keith leaving PF is indeed a loss as he was one of the stalwarts of this forum , there are certain members here who always come up with the goods when asked for help , keith is a mine of information re uniforms and has a vast library at hand which he is willing to share.

Perhaps some apologies all round and a shake of hands may be the decent way to sort this out , there are three main protagonists hear so not that hard to do really.
It is easy to shoot from the hip via the keyboard things get said that would never be aired unless you were prepare to put up or shut up .

The re-casters are with us forever and will only get better at it as 3D printing becomes more accessible , it is up to us the modeller to do our bit by not buying from these people rather than castigate a member for innocently flagging them up.

Words of wisdom from my 5 year old granddaughter when I told her she had to be a good girl or Santa would not come " Granda I can't be good all the time " None of us can !!
This was also followed by a request for a Ferrari for Christmas

A lot worse is done here at times which is detrimental to sales when the odd dog of a model turns up , sometimes it is just an innocent off the cuff remark , Stu is not the only manufacturer or supplier to get upset regards this .

Margins are tight and the smaller outfits do this more for the love of the hobby and are not making vast sums of cash, most of them have daytime jobs also.

You should stay here Keith, not only because you're a valued member and much appreciated contributor here but because you've only recently paid your 'Supporter" fee and they don't do refunds:woot:.......seriously it's only a spat, nothing that can't be easily forgotten :blackeye::cool:

Ron ,

Good post if you look at my post I have apologised and would like to shake hands with Keith albeit over the keyboard so I say again

If my comment was misconstrued then I apologise to Keith and let's put it behind us all and all enjoy the hobby and each other's vast knowledge.

Wow, I've been offline a few days and feel like I've returned to see th aftermath of a deserted battlefield.
Keith miss you already, (Till the next show mate).
Guys whatever your view, there's only one winner and it's not this forum or it's members.
If we attck each other there is no purpose in a forum.
Allowing seemingly negative views to be raised leads to open discussion, common agreement and positive action doesn't it.
Why does it take the loss of a valued friend for us to realise this.
The most intelligent debate I have ever seen was where two people were asked to promote the view they did not hold.
Both sides saw their weknesses afresh and met on a common ground.
Recasters will not vanish because you don't talk about them.
In the same way; just because I think that an airfix figure kit from 1973 is still only worth it's original price, there is no enhanced value to me on something old, that is not high quality, a false value is a false valu; 'dealers' fill ebay with them because they are supposed to be scarce.
Another part of a specialised hobby that is growing.
For me the answer is I just don't buy 'em.
It really is that simple.
How particularly sad is this thread.
Stick together folks, there's not many of us in this species as it is

Regards to all,
Even those that make airoplanes (shudder)
Paul
