Finally finished this dio!

More recent pics (of the Stug and crew) :

And of the center of Cassino (with lots of activity). The tank is being refuelled, rearmed, and the crew is waiting for some action... :

Now, it's the work of inserting some balsa wood around the dio, and later a box in transparent acrylic.

As predicted, I've wrapped the entire dio into balsa wood. It helps protect it, and it hides the not so nice base.

Next phase, getting some transparent acrylic to make a box to cover it (and definitely protect it, in case of house changes, against the dust, etc).

Here are the newest pics:

I have not decided yet if I'm going to paint the balsa or not... If painting it I guess black would be the color.

Personally I think the balsa should be painted , will " frame" the piece better

As suggested by Nap, I've painted the balsa wood. In black. After two coats (of enamel black; almost an entire little can...), that's how it looks:

It could be better (as I didn't have any brush large enough, especially for the back area, I had to buy a large brush - a "spalter" - for this) but it looks ok to me...

Now remains the acrylic cover... in time.
