A Fixture
The third kit of The Old Contemptibles line is available for purchase from Military Miniatures Warehouse at http://www.milminwh.com/theoldcontemptibles.htm.
German Landsturm Sentry 120 mm scale resin kit, model TOC-03, sculpted by Dan Morton, casting by John McNenney, box art and German language assistance by Ulrich Biroth.
The figure represents a middle-aged soldier of the Landsturm, one of the Reserve formations of the German Imperial army ca. 1915. He is bored and homesick and not really paying much attention to his duty. The Landsturm were not as well equipped as the first line German troops, making do with mostly obsolete uniforms, equipment and weapons.
• The head is wearing the black M1813 Landsturm oilcloth Feldmuetze cap. It has one hand and wrist attached. Feldmuetze should be painted black with a silver cross and a cockade black, white, black.
• M1888 8 mm 5 shot magazine Mauser rifle.
• One M1887 Patronentasche, blackened leather ammunition pouch.
• M1871 Pionierfaschinenmesser bayonet and black bayonet sheath – one side of the bayonet is a blade and the other is a saw-tooth. On most rifles, bayonets are mounted blade side down. The Pionierfaschinenmesser bayonet was mounted sideways under the rifle barrel.
• Metal-studded wooden trench club. These were often hand-made by the troops.
• M1893/1910 Feldflasche, aluminum canteen or water bottle with canvas cover (different brown colors possible), and khaki Brotbeutel or bread bag.
• Stielhandgranate or potato masher grenade.
• Cloth to cover up the sentry observation window.
• M1903 Litewka field service coat and blackened leather belt with brass buckle. The buckle has the Imperial German Army motto, “Gott Mit Uns” or “God is with us!” Color of the Litewka is light-grey. After 1915 the shoulder-straps would have been and can be painted in blue (infantry), scarlet (field artillery), black (pioneers) or yellow (foot artillery). The collar patches should be painted red or scarlet.
• M1895 dark gray or black uniform trousers with red stripe.
• M1906 blackened leather boots.
• Two not quite ripe apples – one with a nervous little worm looking out! • Half wall and bottom of a sentry observation point.
• Lead foil to make cloth. The cloth is meant to cover the sentry observation window when it is not in use.
• Pipe in one pocket of the Litewka
• Two signs - Blank of course - So you can personalize them! Ulrich has provided two suggestions -
