Hi all
Although I completed this a couple of years ago I decided to post some photos because it is the 80th anniversary of the evacuation civilians from Guernsey before the arrival of the German forces.

The little vignette depicts a mother and child going up the gang-plank to board a ship to the UK - just like my mother and grandmother did. My grandfather could not get on that ship, and the Germans arrived before he could get a ship to join them so they spent the 5 years apart.

All painted with Vallejo paints.

Thanks guys.

the water was a very thin layer of clear resin over a dark base of blues and greens.

Hi Peter

Thanks for sharing , a very personal piece to you I am sure , can't imagine the thoughts that went through the evacuees minds

Really nice painting , all figures work well together

Good to see the civilian side of the time

Why not enter something into Vignettes & Diorama comp as well

A super piece Peter really nicely done. The back story is really emotive and adds another level to a great piece.

Hi Guys

thanks for the compliments.

on similar vein, who remembers the actor John Savident? he played the butcher Fred somebody on Coronation Street for many years. I mention him because his family missed the official evacuation and aged about 3ish he and his family escaped the occupation to the UK by fishing boat. That must have been terrifying for his family.

This great piece is all the better for the personal history associated with it. This is top stuff, and what modelling is all about.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
