Dear Planet Figure members,

After receiving the consent of the Forum Administrator (for which I graciously thank) I would like to inform you of a new and alternative method of reducing or increasing your grey army:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Grey-Army/757746220986908?ref=aymt_homepage_panel

We are modelers! Whether we make planes, ships, tanks or figures, we are all slaves to our baser instincts and urges. Call it impulse or spontaneity, when we see something we like our imagination starts to run wild. Logic and reason quickly go out of the window and are replaced by an urge to acquire the item(s) of desire.

We all know where this path leads… to the unforgiving “Grey Army”; a collection of models sitting quietly in a corner, cupboard, shelf or attic waiting patiently to be brought to life. A “Grey Army” that is ever expanding as if it were preparing to invade the world. A “Grey Army” that becomes more and more difficult to control.

At some point, however hard it may be, we all come to the realization that some pieces of our “Grey Army” are doomed to remain that solitary shade of grey – they will never reach the pinnacle of their existence; to be displayed proudly or even win an award at a show.
It is for that reason that this page was created; one person’s “decommissioned” model is another person’s valuable asset. Sell, Buy, Swap or Trade the models that you want or don’t want - increase or decrease your “Grey Army” – that is the purpose of this page!

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO ? Like and Follow "The Grey Army" - Sell, Buy, Swap or Trade your models – Just post a picture of the kit on the timeline, with the necessary details (price, postage costs, company, scale etc).

Regards,
Thank you in advance for your support.
Anthony

It is a great idea but too many scammers out there.

hi Yellowcat,

What is the difference between this and buying something from any other forum from an anonymous person?. On facebook you have more chances of dealing with the actual person not a nick name. just my thoughts.

All thoughts are welcome though, as i said i did this for fun, so if i find that it doesn't work i will just have to shut it down...:(

Thanks, Anthony

Hi Anthony,

We have some local sites doing the same thing (for sale or trade) and what you need to set up is a "request" button instead of a "like" button. The admininstrator (Anthony or whoever) approves the submission after checking the profile and that person can now use the thread. Spammers still sneak in but almost nil.
When a facebook member requests entry they are submitting their profile to you. Once you get used to it, it will be fast. Empty profiles aren't approved, stupid profiles pics or info, etc.
A like button allows anyone to enter and post.:arghh:

I think taliesin2013 means what if you don't have facebook? SOOL

Hi Bob,

That sounds logical, I will see how things go, as I said I am new at this so your insight is greatly appreciated. I think for the moment i will leave it open to get some traction, and then I will implement the "request" button instead of a "like" button - it seems to be the correct way to go.

Once again many thanks for taking the time to explain!!!

For this to work people will have to respond to messages on Facebook, I have been waiting since Friday for a response on an advertised figure.

Hi Kilsh,

You are absolutely right, but as with all forums, social media, or web sites this is not something that I can control :(

To all Planet Figure Members,

A BIG thank you to everyone for helping reach 250 Likes so quickly. Now comes the difficult part…Your help is needed:

1/ Spread the word and increase our community. The more people that “Like” this page the more “unwanted” figures or model kits can find a loving home!

2/ Get the ball rolling and start posting your “unwanted” figures or model kits – all relevant post on "The Grey Army" timiline will be shared on our page for more exposure. A little money from selling something can go a long way in buying new figures or model kits OR purchase something you have always wanted at a more reasonable price.

Regards,

Anthony
