I too enjoyed Series 77 figures, back in the 70s and 80s. Was into the German Imperial heavy cavalry, still have a couple unmade. Also have a Franz Doring part assembled and primed, waiting his turn.

I can remember discovering series 77 and any spare cash was saved up and used to buy them from Tangley Model workshop, I think they were in Surrey, UK, then Military Modelling had Franz Doring on the cover and that was it, I just had to have one but unfortunately I was unemployed and just didn't have the money, I eventually drifted off and gave up the hobby for almost 30 years and part of the joy of stepping back in was remembering all the figures that where around way back then and now with the internet in the tool kit, finding pictures of them and revitalising the interest, I hear that the Franz Doring kit is a pig and needs a lot of work so fair play to anyone who is working on it but please keep going and get the classic out there.
TERRY

Yes Terry, Franz is a bit of a schwein to assemble. It's a large scale metal kit and some of the body parts are large and heavy, requring additional support and bracing inside the figure (the body is hollow) to keep it together. Also needed quite a bit of joint filling and removal of mould lines, which needs to be done carefully so as not to remove etched detail in the clothing. Having said all that, it is a very impressive and imposing figure. I really should get it finished.

There's a challenge for you Ken ......LOL

I would love to get the Franz Doring one ...think I remember it being on a cover of Military Modelling magazine

Nap

The real challenge for me Nap, as I get older, is holding a 90mm metal figure while painting. :( You'll notice I am currently doing a lot of 54mm and 36mm vignettes and singles. When I buy new larger scale figures, they will have to be resin, but most of my older gray army is still metal. :) On the other hand, weight of the figure, due to scale and material, vs eyesight will soon become another challenge. God, I love this hobby!

All that said, I guarantee you'll see more Series 77 figures from me. I do love a challenge. ;)

Cheers
Ken
