Its being a long time since i posted something on the forum. I am in the process of finding a new job as we were made redundand from our current job (Swan Hunter shipyards). Those leaving in the UK know. Anyway i said to share this topic with you.

This is a small guide of how i paint shield, i thought i will share it with you.

I always paint the shield with acrylics only because the dry faster!!!
First i start with an acrylic base coat (for this shiled of light blue)

then the shadows and highlights with acrylics

then with a sharp pencil i outline the design. you do not have to be 100% accurate as any mistakes can be corrected later.

again with acrylics a block the main colors

then i highlifht the hair with different brown colors

then the face receives the first higlights and shadows with mixtures of flesh, dark flesh and white acrylic colors, or whatever anyone uses

more highlights and shadows follows and i paint the eye

the horn is the final tach on the shield.

Damage and dirt needs to be add also, but wait i have 4 more to paint for the diorama.

Hope you like it!!!!

Thanks Periklis,

I always thought that i must paint freehanded. I was afraid about the lines from the pencil. Now i see your results i know how to do it. But if i can handle it, that will be the problem.

megroot, my friend

Thanks for your comment, you only have to try and try again!!!!
Its better if you try it first on an old one and then at your final master piece

Periklis, That is really a beautifully painted shield, my compliments.

Keep the good work, looking forward to seeing more.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Periklis,
I really like the shield... its nice to see how you did it.
I have seen your other post and all of them are done
very well. Would like to see the finished diorama.

So you can use a pencil for freehand work? Does it smear at all when you paint over the pencil?

The shield looks great! I'd like to know how you weather it also. I can wait to see the finished product! :)
