They said it would be over by Christmas

Any of you who were at euro, may remember me bringing this along.

Its a soon to be released bust from Modelcellar, sculpted by Carl Reid, the price and release date, are unknown as of yet. The sculpting is brilliant as well as the casting, just so much atmosphere.......

These are photo’s prior to its present state. As a result of my poor painting before Euro and general lack of enthusiasm, this has now been broken down to pieces again and stripped to be retextured and repainted, later when the passion arises again.......

Hi Dave,

Why did you strip it down? I thought you done a great job mate!

There was a few folks was asking me about this at the show, I think it's gonna go well!

I look forward to your next version mate!

Chat soon buddy...
Carl

Hi Carl

At the end of the day I painted it too fast and put myself under pressure, and didn’t feel I had done the bust justice, considering the sculpting and casting or to the best of my ability.

Thanks again to you and Paul, for the opportunity to paint it mate.........

Dave

beautiful sculpt work and beautiful painting . I guess your next version will be even better , and i also guess as a fan of Carl's sculptures i ll also paint this one !!

Best regards

Costas

Dave
I saw this piece at Euro and thought you had done a wonderful job on Carl's excellent sculpt, I can't wait to add this bust to my British Army collection. I look forward to seeing your second version Dave.

Cheers

Dennis

Dave what was wrong it. You did justice to Carl's bust with your painting.
I saw nothing that was not good at it at Euro. Great work mate.
And i hope it is coming out soon, because i wont one.

Marc

Hi Dave
As you already know, you showed me this bust at Euro ,after the judges hadn't awarded it with anything.I said it then and i'll say it now,it totally puzzles me how this bust was not awarded a medal. If it was my paint job i certainly wouldn't have stripped it and would have been chuffed to have the picture on the box art.
What may have happened is that the judges may have thought this bust was a one off and was in the wrong class as it still beats me how your bust was overlooked for an award.
Brian

Thanks Guys

Brian Thanks mate, Paul at Modelcellar has the box art being painted by Randy Myers as we post, I wait to have a look at his version. But I can see what maybe others can’t, so I feel that I will give it a better shot second time round, the face is possible less convincing than I would have liked, I also want add a bit more attention to the wet look and light smattering of snow......

So on and up.....

Dave

Dave,
Good for you for having the balls to strip your work and start again.
I have several works in my cabinet in the garage in various stages where I felt
I blew it and now they sit waiting to be stripped and repainted.
I am sure many of us have had the same experiences.
It doesn't get any easier I am sure when you get to the stage where
you can see what you wanted to achieve effect wise with your painting and even if the work is well painted,
if the effect you are after isn't there, then we aren't satisfied with the results.
I think after reading your ideas on where you want to go with the piece-
you are dead on and I am sure you will get there- how about this for inspiration-
many of us on here love your painting and this being a new bust-
would love to see another painted piece by you as soon as possible!!
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Dave,

YOU STRIPPED IT DOWN?!?!?! OHHHHH NOOOOOO!!!?!?

I thought you had done a FANTASTIC job?!? ...but as someone posted: if YOU are not happy with it, well then, you might as well, otherwise it will drive you crazy!

Thanks for showing it off - it IS an amazing sculpt by Carl. Also, Thanks for the nice words concerning the casting quality. I work REAL hard at that =).

Yes, as we speak, Randy is painting the box art. I gave him this one and the Royal Flying Corps piece at the same time. He has already finished the Royal Flying Corps piece and tells me this one should be another week or two. (You can see the Royal Flying Corps piece in the "catalog" page of our website (www.ModelCellar.com).

But, the dilemma now is that the RFC piece seems to be even more popular than this one. So, which one do I release first? =))!

The retail price will be $47.00USD each (plus $5.00 p+h). I'm planing to release one in the next few weeks in early October, and the second one in November. By the way, the Fusilier (here) and the RFC (on my website) are the first 2 of a series of 4. These will definitely make great holiday gifts!?!? =)).

I'll post when they are released, and of course they'll be on the website.

regards,
Paul
