Hi everyone,

i'm trying to create a flag pole as a backdrop to some 30mm sized war figures. I'm also looking for a thin walking stick to use on one of the figures. I've cut a small tooth pick to see if suitable for either flag pole or walking stick but it's too thick for both. Also I don't like the natural grain of the tooth pick although I could paint it.

Are there any alternative thin wood sticks or rods that can be cut easily and come in different thicknesses that might not be such a natural wood colour. i'd prefer a dark wood that looks more elegant.

Would anyone have any suggestions?

why wood? any modelling shop has rods in different metal from copper to brass to steel in all the thickness you need, they are cheap and strong

What a cheek.....this is a clear yellow card.
Mods need to come down hard on this sort of thing :angelic:

If broom handles are your thing then I recommend the highly entertaining , colour magazine "Broomhandlers Monthly" ....soft and absorbent as well.....LOL

As for the scale poles ......what about trying Slaters Rods ......lots of different sizes available

Happy flag poling

Yeah, though I generally try to stick to someone's original request, I'm with the others. I don't think wood is the way to go. I would use fine-gauge brass rod or wire, or, stretched sprue, particularly in the case of the walking stick for a figure of that size. Or the straw from a broom, as Phil suggested.

For the flagpole, perhaps you could get away with a fine-gauge dowel. Look at your local hardware stores, but also at any hobby shop or arts & crafts stores in your area. Chances are that they carry wood products for small-scale projects, and probably have dowels, too.

Hope that helps, prosit!
