Manchester Model Shop on Deansgate was my pilrimmage, there and Beatties. Last time I went it had gone right downhill though, selling loads of toys basically. Shame
Some great memories.

I was in Manchester in June for the first time in about 10 years. I went down Deansgate to see if the Model Shop was still there but as I'd expected, it was gone. Seems that it was Model Zone for a while (always a misnomer, should really have been "Toy & Model Zone"), but it is now a Turkish diner.

Used to be a great model shop in its day though. Stocked all sorts. When I was living in Germany I used to ring them up to order Verlinden stuff over the phone (pre / early Internet days in the '90s).

That looks just like the best model shop that we had in Weston-Super-Mare just off the Sea Front when I was a kid . Inside one half was sweets and the other half was models , the window was full of completed models all made by the owner . There must have been 6 shops in the town including Woolworths that sold model kits . I lived about 5 miles away and didn't need to go that far for kits, the news agent I did my paper round for sold model . So getting up at 6 am six days a week to deliver papers most of my weeks earnings went on model kits . I Could Have Been a Millonaire by now if only I had resisted those glossy boxes .

brian sherrifs model shop in cowgate Dundee was mecca to me,i went there every Saturday,i couldn't spend much but I was always impressed with the stock he had,when he was closing down he told me I could have anything for half price,so I bought a display cabinet,but only if he delivered it for me. he did. great,happy memories.

This was really nostalgic... Ian got it right when he wrote we never grow up. I haven't... And all of my tastes developed by the time I was 5: models, history, motorbikes, cars and rock music. Even my other peccadillos developed early...
