A lot of good words, although I feel somewhat isolated even though I live near enough in the middle of the UK, just posting something whether it be a question or reply, have it replied to by name puts a smile on my face.

I all so find photos never show your work at its best, so have the chance to meet fellow PF members must be a real bonus, and put a face to names.

A Chinese friend of mine tells me that he and his best mates in China would meet every week to discuss models and show each other the work they do, but they never asked for or received any guidance, advice or support from each other because no one in China wants to give away their secrets and help a potential competitor (even his best mates).
This sort of selfishness and lack of support is evident in lots of places around the world, and I mention it to illustrate what makes pF so special to me.
Over the 12 years I've been a pF member, my own modelling skills have improved enormously, and I place much of that on the advice I've received freely from pF members on this forum. I've gone from a solitary modeller who'd come out of his room once a year for the local model show, to someone with friends all over the world (some who I've recently visited).
Like anything, you get out of pF what you put into it.

That is so sad. Ok to take one’s hobby seriously, but not more seriously than friendship. I’ve noted similar emotions around the model scene and find them very small-minded. Agree that PF is the opposite of this and my skills as well have benefitted accordingly. Hope PF will keep this spirit.

Agree 100%. The more we share the better we all become ... the better we all become the greater the pool of knowledge ... and so the cycle continues. On occasion I've passed on tips that have been gratefully received (even though I don't consider myself to be any sort of "master" by any means) and in return I've learned a tremendous amount on here from other members - from asking questions directly as well as from just following SBS threads and studying photos closely to internalise the way in which guys have painted stuff.

We can all help each other become better modellers & painters, and long may it continue.
