Well guys here's my first attempt at using only acrylics . I pick up this little piece at Figure World , something I could play around with no guidlines on colour scheme .
I've added the wings and made the weapon , the wings are made from something called skeleton leaves ( used for makeing greeting cards ) these were given 2 coats of varnish then a thin coat of paint and then a final coat of varnish . I intend to remake the weapon as now its finnished it looks more medieval than fantasy . I ruined the snakeskin effect on the boots by giving them a coat of varnish in an atttempt to make them look like leather , so I would be grateful for any suggestions on making acrylics shiny and I'll repaint them .
At the moment I've only got 8 colours in acrylics and only used them for basecoats for oils up til now , my painting with oils has been going down hill over the last couple of years and I've not been happy with the end results

Future furniture polish is a popular way of adding a gloss coat among modelers. Don't use some other kind of furniture polish instead, though! Future is essentially an acrylic glaze; the others are not.
If you would prefer a method that lets the acrylic dry shiny, though, instead of glazing the matte finish, add one of the glazes or "mediums" made by Liquitex and many other acrylic paint manufacturers. This has the advantage that you can control the reflectance by using either a gloss or satin glaze (there is also matte) or by mixing several together according to your taste.

Thanks for your remarks Carl , do you mix the varnish with the arylics as I'm looking for a medium to mix in so I can see the results straight away as I find varnishing can alter a finish when applied after .
Philin . is Future Polish here in the UK .
So where do I get Clear from Mark , If it's a bugger to get hold of and do you mix it in or apply after .

I tend to just apply it over the top. Future is Klear here, you can get it off Amazon but it's £10 for 500mls. Asda, Tescos and Sainsbury no longer sell it.:(
Carl.

Thanks for your kind remarks Steve .
Well guys I had to buy some varnish for a piece of furniture I had made, I bought some water based floor varnish , with some I had left over I tried some experimineting , I've found that thinned down it's perfect and at under £10 a ltr. should see me for a life time .
Sometimes we pay to much for our hobby when you think what a gallon of household paint cost then what a pot of Humbrel cost you .
